Finally.

Someone in the peloton saying doping is an ongoing problem.

Thank you Andre Greipel!

Yeah, props to Greipel. That was a believable and passionate response. And as a current cyclist, I understand that you have to be careful of the UCI, but his 'we have found out there were reasons why this hasn't come out sooner' is pretty good.

Good articles, Zam! Thank you. Jaksche is much less than complimentary of Voigt. However, one thing stands out - every one of these articles is Jaksche speaking about one incident of something Voigt said to him in 1999. By the way, your last link has the best English translation of the comment. One can still choose to believe what Jens says today. I don't think he has denied ever knowing anything about it - he has denied ever doing the doping. Jaksche is an interesting "witness" - he holds Sinkewitz to be blameless for his transgressions. Useful, but not the final word, I think.
You are welcome. Nobody is saying it's the final word, just information that Voight may not be pure.

Interesting links. Although the translation is not accurate:

Jaksche said:
"Ich fragte Jens Voigt, der damals für die französische Gan-Mannschaft fuhr, was sein Team denn nun mache. Voigt sagte: Einer hat bei uns vorgeschlagen, alles entlang der Strecke zu vergraben und nach der Tour abzuholen. Wie die Kleinganoven haben wir uns damals verhalten."

"I asked Jens Joing - who was riding for the French GAN team at the time - what his team was going to do." Voigt replied: "One of us [Team Gan] suggested to bury all stuff along the route and fetch it after the Tour."
We behaved like petty crooks at the time.

Obviously Voigt was aware that doping was going on within the GAN team. Although it doesn't say much how extensive and systematic it was or whether or not he was part of it. He was new on the team that year.

These are the GAN Tour-riders of that year

81. Chris Boardman (GBr)
82. Magnus Backstedt (Zwe)
83. Frédéric Moncassin (Fra)
84. Stuart O'Grady (Aus)
85. Eros Poli (Ita)
86. Eddy Seigneur (Fra)
87. François Simon (Fra)
88. Cédric Vasseur (Fra)
89. Jens Voigt (Ger)

Does anyone of those have a particular history? Maybe long time clinic inhabitants may know?

Comment from Niki Terpstra:

We as cyclists are under scrutiny, but the generation of today has nothing to do with the past. Everyone asks me for an opinion but I have nothing to do with it. That is annoying. The whole affair with Armstrong lives in the media much more than in the peloton.

Ummm, Niki. One of the guys admitting doping is ONE OF YOUR TEAMMATES FROM THIS YEAR ON OMERTA PHARMA.

Barf.

Very disappointed with Nicolas Roche on Prime Time tonight. Never really criticised Armstrong and just said the usual that it happenned a long time ago and that it is cleaner now. When he said this, he got pulled up on Contador and said he served his ban and that was that. Refused to criticise McQuaid and said this all happenned when McQuaid was'nt there and that Verbruggen has little say these days.

At the start they played an intro clip highlighting doping issues with Sean Kelly and Stephen Roche. Nicolas got asked later about Stephen's past and said he never tested positve and there was nothing concrete against him.

You could see he was uncomfortable with the line of questioning.

Also Shane Stokes was in the studio and once again criticised the UCI for going after Kimmage. Said the sport needs to kick out former dopers who are involved in managing teams.

Nico is in bed with the devil anywya, dad is good friends with Pats, and pats son is his agent also

Don't know where to put this, but the interview with Millar at CN today is very interesting for what he says, doesn't say, and how he says it.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/tuning-into-radio-millar

It's curious that he calls for the head of Verbuggren, but thinks McQuaid is still salvageable:

"Millar has already called for Verbruggen to step away from cycling altogether, a prospect that looks more likely every time the Dutchman opens his mouth, but Millar would like the current UCI President to cut ties with his former master too. And for all of the UCI blunders over the years, they have implemented initiatives that are worthy of praise. The biological passport, the no needle policy and educational programmes for young athletes put cycling ahead of most sports, but understandably Millar would implore McQuaid to do more, and do it now.

“He has to act like a president now and distance himself from Hein Verbruggen and the baggage that’s been fastened to him. He has to be honest about what happened. I think that the UCI were limited in what they could do but I think at the same time they need to admit to knowing how big the problem was because it was pretty obvious. They could see what was happening. That’s all we need from a president, it’s a role that should inspire confidence because this sport is the cleanest in the world."

and tell Landis to STFU and smear him as an alco

There's the pattern: kick the current pariah.

Floyd does a tell all: kick Floyd.

Floyd is now popular again post reasoned decision - "Me and Floyd are now friends".

McQuaid & UCI are looking complicit, media backlash is rising... kick McQuaid! Even if 3 months earlier that pariah was commending you.

During the press conference, Millar asked McQuaid directly if the UCI should take more responsibility for what happened during the EPO era.

Now Hein is the pariah - see the shift in the media attention? Hein and Nike, Hein and Kathy Lemond, Hein and SMSs.

Now Millar says McQuaid is going ok. Starts kicking the new pariah, Hein. "McQuaid needs to ditch Hein"

Nike et al drop Lance, turning him, finally, into the new pariah and...... - BOOM -

Millar kicks the other new pariah - Lance.

Pariahs are easy targets. Costs you nothing to kick them. Costs you nothing to be an anonymous supporter (JV) of someone (F Andreu) who has publicly stated Lance doped.

Millar MO

And for this very, very easy MO, they attribute "Most vocal anti-doping rider in the peloton".

Puhlease.

Millar had retics out the wazoo pre-2008 and they had to do additional tests to prove he was legit. Sound like anything else we've heard before? Like say... oh I dunno. Someone who was from the same stable? Rob Hayles and his high Hct perhaps? Suspended for 2 weeks and volunteered for additional testing to prove he was legit? Dropped his Hct from 50.3% to 45% in 2 weeks.... Millar's retics dropped from 1.8 to 0.7...

Not so fast with getting rid of Verbuggren, we need more info on what transpired during his terms. Getting rid of him now is like saying lets not look at the past and only look forward. Lets take a peek behind the curtain first.

Hadn't seen this before. Thanks. Sounds like David is being groomed by Pat to replace him at UCI. Would support David's BBC interview in the past week that he "would consider" heading up UCI.

Voigt rode at a time when anything between 85 and 90% of pro riders at the top level were doping, and he had great results. In that context, it's not "what have we heard to suggest he doped?'", but "what have we heard to suggest he was one of the few clean ones?"
How dose a clean rider prove it when thanks to all the dirty riders it its believed by most that everyone dopes

Well that's good because he's anglo, and makes noises about the fight against doping, and - oh wait. Crap.
