This is not top shape Van der Poel but still really impressed with how De Lie managed to hold on to his wheel in that final sprint given how much work he had done. Let's see if he can hold on into the leader's jersey.

It was a way more exciting race that I thought it would be (happy the MvdP solo didn't stick). It was a shame he didn't wait for Del Grosso. I'm not sure they would've been that much better of because everybody would have looked at them and start attacking, but it would've made it an interesting tactical race.

The other takeaway is that I'm just so happy De Lie is back. He will be annoyed that he isn't winning but ofcourse if you get yourself in the mix enough you start winning eventually. The question ofcourse is if and when be can take the next step and be there in the biggest races, but for now just happy to see this.

47 km/h for stage 3 after 48km/h and 49 km/h for stages 1 and 2. I don't know how much Pogi Porridge these guys are having for breakfast but if they keep this up, they can rename the race the Duracell Bunny Free for All!
MvdP did wonder at the Tour how guys recover each day, so maybe he's found out the trick (don't go over 50 km/h ?!)
Edit - add - I see no less then 20 guys DNF plus Turner's last minute dash to the Vuelta. Must be a record for a stage race not on the last day.
