Today could be a battle for seconds. The "green kilometer", with three times 3-2-1 seconds, comes 22 km before the finish, in the penultimate lap, between the Keizersberg and the Wijnpers.

Wellens should let MvdP and De Lie waste their energy in those sprints, and attack immediately after the third sprint, just when the other two straighten their back.

We are headed for the conclusion with stage 5:

All the rouleur types with some sprinting capability should have a chance to win the stage. Wouldn't mind De Lie to win the stage and GC, but this will likely pull some teeth doing so.

Race is about to start with live pics in 2.5 hours or so.

Next climb the Chartreuzeberg, one of the most used in the area. Never seen a race on it so I’m curious how easy they’ll make it look. Don’t expect an attack from the peloton but would be nice.

Thibau’s training parcours. He’s alert in the front rows.

Bahrein keeps pacing. If they race it hard like this there could be some gaps in the local lap. Otherwise it would be hard to drop De Lie. Hope to see an all out attack on the Wijnpers from Mathieu, last time during the WC he was not in his best form. Perfect hill for him.

No team can really control this. De Lie has only 3 teammates left.

EDIT: he basically only has Berckmoes, wouldn't surprise we if we get a surprise winner because it's going to be 50km of chaos.

WC being really climb heavy is good for this and has been for Germany too, a lot of these guys here have nothing left to do this season so are going for it. Canada appears to be stacked this year too, GP Michael Matthew’s is anyone’s game.

Mathieu needed to make it hard right before the green boni seconds so he can get the lead there on the next Decouxlaan. Afterwards you can let a group go eventually.
