Correction, I think

Feature article on the early months of the 2010 season (I'm posting to the nearest applicable thread) has Lars Boom, Dutch national cross champion, at the worlds, but I'm sure he wasn't there, and in fact only rode two races last season, the Dutch nationals obviously one of them.

Oh my goodness !!! What a race! :D

Real mudbath with running sections, and entertaining from the very beginning on.

Vantornout with an early lead, great runner with his long legs, and then a running attack just like Erwin Vervecken in his glory days. I loved the Albert attack, he was 6th or 7th but capitalized on the others pit stops ! :D

Stybar really suffered. This proves that his pulling out of Niel wasn't fake.

Van Amerongen had a great start. Shame he could not keep up. :(

In the last laps, Stybar was caught by his own team mates: Wellens, Peeters and even Pauwels. They seemed to care for him but did not wait.

His explanation after the race: "I think each rider should ride for himself and this place was also very important for Rob [Peeters] in his quest for a selection by the national coach for the World Cup events."

Shows how individual as a sport cyclocross is and how humble this Stybar is. He said that with great dignity. :)

Sorry in advance, this is a very basic, dumb question, but I don't really follow cross racing that much. Do riders from the same team not really work together the way they do in road racing? It seemed to me that Stybar was working pretty hard to try and catch Pauwels, who's on the same team as him. Thanks for your insight.

It really depends on the circumstances. Sometimes, yes, team mates ride together tactically. You have to remember that the GVA is a series. Stybar was leading going into todays race and Pauwels was second but Stybar has been out for a week or so with a knee problem. So, from a team perspective, they will have been told to go and maximise their points whilst making sure that they covered any moves by Nys who is now coming onto his best form. Both Pauwels and Stybar covered Nys when he tried to make the winning move two laps from the end of the race. So, I guess you could argue that they worked as team mates to cover the biggest threat to both of their positions overall in the series.
I feel sorry for the Sunweb boys :eek:
