Honestly think they outbid Ineos by a significant margin.

Being undisputed GC leader for any GT of his choice. And a pink jersey.

However EF do have some good riders. If they put everything in the Tour basket they can field a very decent support team.

I don't think he can win against the new superstars, but that's on him - I really like him, but he's not the very best of the best, so it's always going to be hard for him. Personally, I do like the move and am interested to see how it plays out.

With EF's current team, he can podium any GT, maybe not win the Tour, but he's also the Olympics champ and might have some one day race upside, too.

Is Uran staying? He could be a great mountain domestique for Carapaz.

There's very little chance Carapaz' results are gonna improve at EF compared to Ineos.

I think this is about sole Tour leadership mainly.

Great finish to the Vuelta for Carapaz coming into the race in lesser shape. 3 stage wins, KoM, 14th in GC, and did all he could to help Rodriquez. I don’t think many had him finishing second highest of the Ineos riders. Hopefully he doesn’t regress at EF.

Agreed. What I meant is that he’ll be in the mix for a podium with EF, especially if they give him Carthy and Uran as domestiques. That said, EF would be over the moon with Billy’s vuelta results this year…

Great race by Billy. I'm not so sure that finishing 2nd without a stage win (Mas) is better than 3 mountains stages + KoM by Carapaz.

Probably it's objectively better but to the sponsors of the team Carapaz' presence in the race (stage wins, time in breakaways, mountain jersey decorations) was really felt a lot.

What is he up to these days? Just saw him removed from Trofeo Laigueglia startlist. I think he had some health issues during the winter but already won the NCs in mid February so should have been good to race by now?

He said basically carapaz lost the giro last year with a “stupid” attack in the Lombardía stage.

I don’t know what to expect from carapaz. I love his style and I will at least get some excitement.
Not sure about results.

Hope he improves and has a decent Tdf but I fear a decent tdf means no stage wins and boring riding

Just when I started to like Geraint Thomas… How many more calories did he burn with that attack, 200, 300? How is that gonna cost him so much on Stage 20? How did the marginal gains stuff work for Geraint this year? Carapaz is what cycling needs: a guy who doesn‘t care much about what defensive tactics weird sports scientists dictate.

Yes, one often sees praise for riders who take 'risks' with ambitious attacks, but for me Carapaz is someone who really does take risks as he doesn't have Pogacar/Remco legs. So sometimes the attacks fizzle out, sometimes there's criticism or mockery when it's not ideally timed or simply too ambitious for his form, but he generally livens up the races he's in and is a good enough rider to be a real danger if he pulls something off. Glad he's in the peloton.

You have to give him the benefit of the doubt because he usually does this where he is not in good form a month away from his main objective and then he pulls off a good performance.

He was really bad last year outside the day he went on that raid in Catalunya in the build-up to the Giro, then almost went on to win it. No reason to panic although he can't afford to start the Tour undercooked given that the climbing starts early.
