Lack of fighting spirit in the tassie boy methinks.

Problem was the bike he eventually got on was Kiryienka's and that was far too big for him.

The way it is going, Porte may never even podium a GT.

Possibly. It's important for his hopes of leading a team in a GT again that he has a solid third week. Ride a good time trial and don't lose big time on one day in the mountains.

Maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt, but we need to see aggression, a fight back etc. Gaps are growing and the clock is ticking.

Well there hasn't been any opportunity for a fight back yet, has there?

Plenty.

Racing isn't limited to uphill sprints......

Realistically there hasn't been any opportunity to gain time since the puncture. Contador gained some time yesterday but that was in an uphill sprint.

SKY are a disaster in this Giro

First they were not with their leader when wheelgate happened

And today ...some just kept riding , one around crash on the grass and off (not with Viviani who was at front so why is a mystery)
Others just milling around and not even bothering to ride hard to the line with Porte

Where is the leadership ???

If it wasn't for all the hype, the motorhome, the fantastic numbers he puts out in training, the fact that journos have to wash their hands to visit the RV, the marginal gains BS, the swimming, the fact that Sky did everything first and other teams just followed, the dominant wins in little races which apparently warrant a great GT champion I would have a little sympathy for Porte.

He is simply not made to podium any GT. He just doesn't have what it takes, maybe in the lab he can even win one but not on the road.

I think you're too harsh on the guy, he was really unlucky in this race.

No, cycling genius Brailsford.

Ask yourselves a question, or two:

Why did Aru got around just fine? Why was Nibali just fine at last years Roubaix stage? Why was Nibali the winner in the 2013 Tirreno while Froome was in tip top condition?

Because they are cyclists by heart, not some wannabe time triallers who have learned how to climb and think they can a GT.

Yeah, sometimes riders get back luck, but some riders never have bad luck, perhaps that is for a reason?

In stages like today one can see who is a true cyclist [reading the corsa] and who is not.

Sky almost as tactically clueless as Lampre. Frightfully similar, in fact. No respect for team hierarchy, total negligence over their leader, everybody riding for themselves like true bounty hunters. 't leaves you baffled.

Much of this I think is due to the fact that they need a GC road captain...

Rogers could help keep things together and it seems to me he was a big loss to them...

also neither Froome or Porte were ever the big leaders as I see it..

They may be nice and fun dudes but I newer gotten the impression that they got the hand of things on the road other than applying huge pressure...

I never liked the word bot and think it fair to take offence from the expression but maybe there is something to it...

SKY'S TACTICS = douchebaggery at its finest.
PORTE = defeated, whining, NON-STOP COMPLAINING.
CONTADOR = always fights back. NO COMPLAINTS.

Did anyone else see how he jumped up from the ground as soon as he crashed? Did anyone see how one of his teammates (don't know who he was) zigzagged his way through all the casualties just to dash towards Alberto and lend him his bike? Took me three replays to perceive it, but it was an awesome move. No needs to ask for help to other teams.

What? His team *** up multiple times and he's been very unlucky. Porte is pretty much faultless.

So, the team says "Richie, follow wheels it'good for you, relax, don't do anything stupid. You'll smash them in the ITT" "Richie, forget about your lieutenants, we'll take care of them, sure they sleep in s****y hotels but they are having fun together." "Richie, quick, take that Orica wheel!" "Richie, do you see Kirienka? No? He's that tall guy, your colleague. Take his bike quickly!" "What do you mean you don't spot that Contador dude? He's in pink Richie!"

i think if he doesn't fight back in this giro, he will never lead a team in a grand tour. which would be incredibly sad to me

and indeed to me he seemed that he didn't bother to chase at all, i mean wtf?

Yeah sure jump and hit him when he's down.I don't know why people blame Porte,he just doesn't have any luck this Giro and that's it.His team is responsible for this mess starting with that dumb move of replacing Lopez with Eisel.I'm curious if he'll try to fight back or not,ITT is his first chance, but i won't be surprised if he doesn't give a *** anymore. There is something going on in the Sky Giro team, too many times Porte was shown alone in different stages, these things were never taking place when Wiggins and Froome were leaders.

But you would have to ask the quesyion if his team supports him and if they don't maybe he is not blameless ....just speculating but team mates not giving a sh** about you maybe cos they don't like you
