To achieve a podium he must perform close to his full potential consistently and I can hardly see that happen according to all the proxies we have.
That being said, if he performs as his usual self, as in, having one or two really bad days, he'll hardly podium, or top 5 to be fair. But if the stars align and he can keep consistently a high level (close to his ceiling) then yes, he can challenge a podium, more so than Aru, Pinot, TVG or any other rider apart from the top 3.

And I agree. Porte is likeliest to get in the podium than any other rider (apart from the top 3. I'd include Nibali, in case he didn't ride il Giro). However, I believe he's the least likely rider to get in the top 5, if we consider the likes of Aru, Nibali, Pinot and a couple more riders.
That's a lot of faith in a rider whose past results indicate a top 15 would be a huge accomplishment.
