Do you guys live in a cave or something? Porte will have that one bad day like hes had everyother year what exactly makes you guys believe something else will happen this year...

You never know he doesn't this time, i rather take that chance than rely on tj who btw has often too bad days.

True. But it's all guessing by now. If you go with 'history', it tells you Tejay will finish higher than Porte / has a stronger chance of placing ahead of him in GC.

It's clear now who the Supreme Leader of BMC is going to be. Hopefully Teejay can ride into some form so as to be a useful servant when Richie will be competing with the titans of GT racing
Tejay was 1:51 from the best GC contender.Though still a very bad performance being only the 15th best GC contender or so.
Both of them are overrated anyway.

You never know yes, but its definitely more likely he will rather then he wont. Hehe if its betwen choosing Tejay and Porte its like choosing betwen a rotten apple or rotten pinapple I would prefer neither :D but if I had to choose Id go with Porte aswell.

I've just finished simulating the Tour de France, here is the range of results for both riders. Richie needs to be backed if you want to go for glory even if TJ may well be more likely to achieve a mediocre result.

There are too many explosive climbs / mountain stages in the second half of the Tour de France for Tejay to have a shot at GC anyway. The route doesn't suit him at all.

CNF posters hate both riders so much I don't really care which does well as long as they place higher than contador so I can read the excuses for another year, loving every laugh along the way.

It will be better for the Tour if riders like Porte and TJVG do well. There is nothing worse than watching match races in GTs between two riders with everyone else in the distance. I think Bardet will also be interesting to watch but his TT is a bit weak. All of the experts are picking a battle between Quintana, Froome and Contador. I hope they are wrong. Aru and Pinot might do well without hitting the podium. Talansky badly needs a result and JVDB seems to be past it now. Can't see Rodriguez doing much also past it, maybe a stage win. Landa will be playing the team role.

I agree! I would love to see 10 guys kicking the crap out of each other for the GC!

I have lost faith in Richie's ability to hold it together for an entire 3 weeks and not have any very bad days. But he did look very lean and mean at the Dauphine. It is all a question of recovery with Porte.

Tejay did well in 2012 but that course probably suited him more than this years. Remember 2012 was the year of Wiggo and Sky. Two long TTs and the mountains were relatively tame compared to before and since.

Hopefully Richie can be #1 BMC rider by end of the Tour but the big 3 will be dicing it out for overall victory.

Well as a fan I live in hope that Porte will show something in a GT. Even a top five would be good to see but time is marching on and the team and Porte himself should be weighing up a a possible stage win against a possible top 10 if that is going to be his peak in a GT. Someone like Rodriguez was in a position to win two GTS in one year and let both slip away. SK could have won the Giro. Unless you are a consistent top liner like Contador or Froome the opportunities don't come along very often. Rodriguez will look for a stage win and maybe Porte is someone who should do the same if the GT performance simply can't be taken up to the next level. Not many people win GTs and they are mostly multiple winners so it's a pretty exclusive club. If he or TJVG made the podium BMC would be very happy but they have the job ahead of them if the past is any guide.

I think Porte is a serious Contender for a Podium and the win (if something happens to Froome and Quintana).
You have to say others are more likely to get a top 10. But porte is one of the few who can climb with the best guys in the world.
He went through the spring of 2015 without a bad day and then got unlucky in the giro.
I would love to see him prove people wrong. And with a whole team behind him he has some real fire power at BMC!

The whole team isn't behind him though. The leadership is at least said to be split among TJ and LRP. And what happened last time that Porte had a team backing him? DNF after losing two minutes for a wheel change, a terrible TT and cracking like a boss in the first mountain stage

Poor guy. ''Team'' couldn't be bothered to leave just one guy with him or leave someone behind he could switch bikes with.

I think they used up all their guys in the chase, other than Greg and Tejay.

EDIT: Yep, Porte was the 3rd placed BMC rider. It's just bad timing.

I don't think so. 5 minutes or so after the flat tire one guy clearly showed dropping from the peloton, give him a pull for 10 seconds and drop again to the gruppetto. They had at least one guy there who could have given him his bike or at least help him. Now I'll be wishing they don't get a single stage win.

I'm just mad, and I even said i'd prefer TJVG leading the team over Porte.

Incredibly unlucky. Any remote chance for victory now gone through now fault of his own. When that happens on day 2, that's got to hurt and Richie is liable to just giving up and mailing it in.

I hope he doesn't because he can still make he podium

The worst part of this is that he's possibly been relegated from co-leader of his team to super domestique through no fault of his own.

But that's bike racing

Ah, looking at the times it was probably Caruso.

I make fun of people expecting much from Porte and I stand by that, but this is just terrible. They guy can't catch a break.
