I think he won't be able to keep his form until the end of the Giro. He is very strong since January....

I have been quietly impressed with RP this year. I am interested to see if he will be given support by the team and in particular CF for a tilt at the overall. My only concern at this stage is whether he can carry his form through to the end of the Giro. However, it is nice to see him up front

Its funny how some are talking about his great "form" from January. I guess you are forgetting that he was racing against one now retired rider and he was beaten by Dennis.

Quite honestly, I think nothing more than 80% form is needed at TDU so his form may be even peaking later ... which does not mean that he will not choke when it really counts ...

the good ol' Ritchie the choker

That's not what his trainer (or manager I don't exactly remember) said at the TDU when he went on to win the TT though. I recall him saying after the TT that Porte, right now, is the strongest rider in the world, which would indicate that he already was well trained. He then dominates PN and he is quite strong here. Thus it is legitimate to wonder if he is already near peak and so can't improve much, or rather there and will have a hard time maintaining it through the entire Giro?

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think the leading candidates to then sign him could be TCS, BMC and OGE.
TCS will have Contador retiring the next year, BMC have TJVG and OGE would love to have Australia's best GC hope. All three would have compelling cases for Richie; Bjarne, money and national ties.

Tejay is overrated. BMC should sign Aru. Porte to TCS? interesting thought. I wonder if he wants to be back under Bjarne (well, if he is fired then under whoever). Beside working under drunken Rusian owner doesn't seem a good environment to nurture his interest. One nose dive, he will be slaughter by Oleg's nasty twitter. OGE doesn't have enough support like sky. *think Uran at Ettix*

I think GE want to try and develop some of their younger riders. I'm sure they were also interested in Dennis but BMC got in first. Porte has to get a good GC result in a grand tour soon otherwise it will be his fate to play domestique in the mountains to others and try win races like Paris Nice and the TDU maybe TOC as well. He's not explosive enough for the classics but he is a good time triallist so obviously a win in a one day race would have to be a solo not a sprint. But Thomas and Stannard seem to be doing well in that department. Not every rider likes to be a leader and it might turn out that he just can't handle the three weeks with the best riders. The Giro should answer a lot of questions this year for a few riders including Porte.

i have a feeling that relation between Porte and Froome is very glacial

i'm very curious with who they roomed in Catalunia, in the past they shared same room, now? anybody knows?

they've been friends for years, since 2012 and train together in Nice-Monaco and have had more or less the same race schedules (bar Tirreno)
I don't know, Froome was even leading the bunch yesterday with Zandio and Kiry with Porte well protected behind

Froome and Porte are great friends, have been for years. Nice to see Froome helping out over the last 2 stages.

I saw a picture from a Sky table (Porte retweet)

Porte was staying alone at a round table, Froome at main table , with an empty space near him (also no dish at that spot)

This body language says something

Also Porte didn't tweeted anything at @froome in the past 6 months, and it does it very regulary with other cyclists

Porte did not even congratulate Froome for his victory.

Maybe he does all that stuff in private but some signs are here...

Perhaps Froome is angry Porte broke his Madone record?

nah, Froome seems relaxed, just check his twitter, only good words about Porte.

Porte has a fiancee, maybe the womens don't get to well together :D

A superficial look at Porte's new fiancee can suggest that, and often it happens that friendship between 2 man to end when a women gets in between

All if's and but's but you can never know

Not get on with The Cound?! Surely you're joking?

I have no idea whether there's been any falling out; all seems like speculation. But any friendship between competitive people is going to come under some strain if the 'natural order of things' is threatened; which is to say when the standard of the 'star' that of his super domestique start to move closer together.

And Sky has a track record of not handling this stuff well…not only Froome and Wiggo but Cav. Brailsford's 'Fastest man in the boat' approach must make everyone a bit concerned if they have a bad period.

maybe it's nothing. But Porte didn't shy about his ambition to be the leader at TDF. Now he is in the rising while Froome is still struggling (maybe he just slows down his preparation). But if Porte ends up beating Contador at the Giro, it won't be surprise there's going to be another dilemma in sky as who should they protect at TDF for the future. The fact that Porte is working with Kerrison (from the way he said it in interview), dunno that shows maybe sky is looking to find another Froome in the rank. From the way Porte said, it sounded like he wasn't working with Kerrison before (might be just Froome and Wiggins). *just speculation*

porte will never win il giro, even more with contador in the giro. stage 16 will be the bad day of porte, he will lose 30 minutes in that stage. he is in great shape now but in the giro, contador and others will be better and they will beat him.

From Froome's book, we know that Kerrison only worked closely with Brad and other such riders. Not Froome. The Swimming Coach is not the responsible for Froome meteoric rise.

Yes a little ridiculous IMO. Not a fan of Richie but I am looking forward to a good battle with my man Uran, the last two superdomestiques from Sky. A little bad blood here would intensify things but based on their handshake at the end of one of the stages in Catalunya don't think it is gonna happen. Going to be a great Giro.

LOL Porte didn't outclimb Contador in catalunya, those aren't even climbs.

Richie should know better, he was there in the giro 4 years ago, he was in the man's team.
