one of the snippets when he turned pro was that he could swim the full length of a swimming pool underwater

Since I can do that fairly easily, I would imagine any pro cyclist could do it even more easily.

Ok, tough guy

Post a video of you doing that

"Since this exploit, the "Tasmanian devil" Porte has been called "fish" at Saxo Bank."

all this rain and LRP still looks like a fish out of water in a GT..........

I do not see the contention? The first post was inaccurate as that's more than the full length of a swimming pool. Red's surprise is spot on as actually the story was that Richie swims 1.5 pool (or 3 25 meter pools).

Yeah, pardon me for not remembering the exact details of something that I read over 5 years ago.

You don't think that Red's pavlovian reaction to make it seem that Porte is nothing special without knowing the exact details is not telling?

Not really. Swimming a lap underwater is not that impressive. That's what Red was dimissing, not Porte's specialness as an athlete per se.

At least, that's how I read it.

Red, redherring.

A 50 metre underwater breaststroke from a competent swimmer ~3min. But you are using O2 in the muscles, burning O2, not merely holding breath for 3 min.

But competent swimmer and breaststroker, not a major task. but what the hell, chapeau LRP and your lungs.

we are assuming 50 metres, 55 yards underwater.

dont underestimate the lungs of LRP. like LAnce's lung capacity.

LRP lungs respect

A sub 30 min 10k time at the end of a tri is very impressive. I didn't know that about him.

yeah and then in a later interview they claim he said his run was no good and so he switched to cycling?

Lance could do 26 off the bike

got a link for that? That's ~2.5 min ks (4 min 10s miles) for 6 miles. just not buying that sorry.

A few have looked for results - can't find a single one. It's almost as believable as bilharzia.

Did you link to retardtwitch for a reason?

Only because that was pretty much the fist thing I came to when I looked for his Tri results. And because Coggan made me chuckle.

Well, 2 things. One I was definitely not trying to be a tough guy, I was making fun of Porte for (apparently) bragging about something which someone as old and out of shape as I am can do quite easily.

Two, if I post a video of myself with two podium girls, my wife is going to find out.
