Porte just blew himself up when he tried to help Froome. He overestimated his strenght today. Porte had a tough start to the stage like many other good climbers, when Froome got isolated Porte realized the danger and tried to come back to Froome, which he did, but then he also tried to push the pace once he was with Froome and that was when he went over the limit. He should have kept his cool and try to bridge to Froome later on when the pace went down. But Sky was in panic mode thanks to Garmin.

The thing is that dopers and non-dopers crack. There is not always a hidden agenda. i.e. They want to try and appear fallible or they had a dodgy BB. Sometimes people just crack.

As someone mentioned I very much doubt the plan was to isolate Froome such that a mechanical could kill Sky's Tour.

That's fair you're probably completely right and there are too many factors to consider.
I guess where I'm coming from is that we still need to accept that doping affairs are never just about doping and performances, there is always so much deception, PR, ploys involved. And nothing is out of the question really. There will be pros and cons to every move.
It's barely ever about cycling really, ask the UCI.:)

I guess if we ever find that Sky was doped there will be so many repercussions to it, involving BC, the Olympics, so many other things. Nothing then will seem ridiculous.

or maybe I'm tired and what happened yesterday finally turned me into a nutcase :) soon I'll turn into an old woman with a lot of cats.

Even dopers can have a bad day?

Edit: Just look at Contador and Evans yesterday, Wigans at the Giro for that matter.

"The Great us postal team" in the year of our lance 2005 also had a bad day. :p

That pretty much sums it up. Look how close he came, one minute 17 on Val Louron I believe, then Movistar opened the gas again. Same tactic as Canondale on friday.

If Sky had let the Garmin boys have their day out all would have been fine for the Ritchie man. Buy hey, it was so dangerous to let Hesjedal ride, he was so close at 8 minutes in the GC.

Arrogance it is called.

Doesnt explain the bad beef of Kirienka, Shiftzov and Garcia though.

Yes that is true. But the rest day refill they were back!

I'm sure Porte is main lining 500ml right now.

It's hot out there. Blood doesn't transport well. And you should never use T when it's over 35c. Jitters. Crazy jitters.

PS it reminded me of Sky (gb) at the Olympics. They thought they could ride start to finish on the front.

Richie is a bit thick. Not hard to bait him.

Back in the good old 90es it wasn't uncommon that especially hard doped guys blew up all of a sudden. From hero to zero, the line is thin when you are depending on the juice. Just think of Berzin.

Porte

'the peloton kicked our arses today'

Yeh course they did Ritchie....he then added that he thought his climbing legs would be back when they next get to the mountains - you can bet your last dollar he'll go full ***.

That headline was last and official confirmation, everything was planned. Nevertheless, i think it was stupid to erase Porte out of contention. Vroooome could always crash, or other riders follow ryders example and knock those clowns off their bikes.

What are the odds that Porte will be MIA during any critical stage? I would say zero. This was a the start of a double rest day for Porte so Sky does not have to answer to the ridiculousness of going one-two again in the Tour.

I bet Porte and Froome had a right good laugh about today's charade. I will also bet that after the outcry yesterday, Porte does not show off again by riding for himself after his domestique duties for Froome are finished.

Brailsford got a knock on the door after yesterday's stage. ASO reps telling them they can win with Froome but a 1-2 sky podium won't be tolerated.

when you think about it, it's actually kinda insane that people thought that a guy who finished behind a 75 year old Levi Leipheimer in the Tour last year was going to podium this year, no matter how much domestique work he did in that race

but i was one of them. thank god i was wrong.

The simplest way of interpreting Porte's performance today is that he's not on the juice. I know thats at odds with most posters on this thread who need to familiarise themselves with ockham's razor.

Port spent himself on stage 8 and had nothing left for today.

It hard to satisfy those who want to believe he dopes as it seems riding fast, riding slow, having a bad day, having a good day or riding for sky can, one way or another, be contorted into evidence that someone dopes.

Porte contorting the peloton at 6.5 is enough proof. He's become a joke. After Saturdays effort the jury came in and delivered their verdict. Doper.

Sorry.

Sorry.

The jury may of came in and delivered their verdict but it is highly likely to be overturned on appeal for lack of evidence :p

The Clinic 12 are cycling's judge, jury and executioner. :p

As Hog said, there's no going back from here. Porte could end up as the lantern rouge and that still wouldn't change his superhuman dominance on Ax-3-Domaines, which was clearly fuelled by something other than warm downs.

Sorry we belong to the laws of Britain on here and there is no death penalty there! :p
