I'm eagerly waiting for a repeat of his performance in Peyresourde-Col d'Azet-Ancizan.

zigmeister said:I tell you guys what, Richie did a heck of a job bringing Froomey back up to Contador yesterday on the climb. They burned up a few Sky guys, then Porte on the front...job done.
So, Contador could barely hold Froome's wheel, yet Contador could just drop Porte and the team at will on the climbs and they were useless.
There is some weird contradictions. Since Froome is superhuman and can drop anybody pretty much, how did Porte pull Froome back up to Contador???

Several training camps at altitude followed and he slowly found his feet at the Dauphiné last month. Despite not showing his best condition in recent months, Porte believes that he is heading to Yorkshire in form.
“I’m going really well on the bike and my weight is down on twelve months ago. It wasn’t great to have the Giro as my big goal and not race it, but I’m fresh and I’m going into the Tour in better shape than I was last year. It is what it is, and I would have preferred to do the Giro for myself, but it’s still easy to get excited by the prospect of being in top form for the Tour."
“I was in good form and then I had gastro and wasn’t able to start the next day," Porte said of his Tirreno-Adriatico abandon. "Then I got sick and I had issues with my set up on my bike, things that shouldn’t have happened, and it’s not been easy but the team has been good with me and we’ve chipped away at the problems. I’m in a good place. I’m where I need to be.”

It seems like. Surprise, surprise.Porte 2014 = Froome 2013? Then think of how strong Froome is going to be.
He will be intimidating at stage 10, I think even he will win the stage. Think 2012, just with Froome in the role of Wiggo and Contador as Evans.Dear Wiggo said:He's said that sort of thing already this year, and been smashed before the final climb on stages, so I ain't believing it until the fat lady sings.

DirtyWorks said:While I agree, I'm fascinated at how difficult 2014 has been for Sky's TdF riders.
2012 and 2013 Sky was making the rest of the peloton look like amateurs in stage races. 2014 comes along and almost nothing worked for the stage racing squad.
It will be interesting to see which Sky shows up in Yorkshire. Well, actually, the first mountain top finish.
Still I'm hoping the second day around Yorkshire is sufficiently difficult to the point riders not paying attention get bit for it.
SeriousSam said:Oh dear Richie. You know what's more telling about "how it is" than a Richie P utterance? Data. We can look at the characteristics of Grand Tour Champions and guess what? Froome is a big ****ing outlier in that he's shown absolutely nothing prior to becoming the best GC rider in the world.
Well I guess there is super secret power data where he did 7w/kg in training on one of those rare days he wasn't struck down by Bazhilla.

"Tactically, it can also work out for me – I might have my own opportunities in this race if I don't lose time," Porte said.
"Alberto showed in Dauphine (last month's Criterium du Dauphine race) he's happy to follow Chris around. If that's the case, come the third week then that's going to play into my hands. I do have some ambitions going into this race of riding for a good finish."
