Welp, I guess this will be the active thread for the rest of the Tour;)

I still think Sky can deliver us some epic alien riding, especially from a guy who we know was a nobody before joining the Dark Side.:D

You guys are hilarious, Porte was probably top 3 climber last year on his good days even 2nd at times. Just like Kreuziger if they were both on diff teams they could have been on podium.

All true.

Was Porte always a GC contender? Best young rider with a 7th at the Giro in 2010 makes him at least plausible. His first WT squad being Saxo is a little disconcerting. We'll have to see if he did as much work in the wind tunnel testing his climbing attacks.

The real question is can Sky resort their GC strategy. They have totally blown race strategy on a regular basis. This is a team that left a TdF podium winner off.

So if Porte podiums...or heaven help us...wins, we are supposed to believe that Porte, who is obviously Froome's lap dog, is still ahead of the likes of Contador, Valverde, Nibali, Talansky, et al? What would that have said for Froome then?:eek: Marginal gains suddenly becomes infinite gains.

He arrived at Saxo like that and soon regressed to his natural levels before joining Team Clean and regaining his ambition quenching form plus some.

I will laugh my shorts off if the dog that left Saxo mounts the podium's top step at his new team, which would fit the pattern perfectly of turning mutts into springer spaniels and a new tour winner every year at his new team.

Truth be told Porte is a way more talented bike rider than Froome. By a long way.

He's now in rightful position. As leader.

Someone doesn't agree that Porte is a GT contender, and it's school boy "whatever-ing"? I could see with my own eyes the guy was nothing more than a third or fourth domestique based on his actual riding, and now we're supposed to believe he's just as talented as Froome and could win the Tour de France? That's laughable.

It could be the case that riding as a neo-pro you don't get podium opportunities? Quite unlike Froome, he's got some results that suggest he is WT/grand tour material and got them when he was younger.

The other side is Porte's months-long excellent results then nothing like the rest of Sky is warning enough to never personally believe the guy is cleans.

We need a book, or maybe an illness, to fill in his story a bit.

V02 max anyone?

TUE?

Walsh got a book ready for this one?

As Richie saw Froome laying in a ditch by the side of the road, he took off his Oakley™ shades, his glance roaming across the rain soaked fields. Far away in the distance, he glimpsed something so faint that at first he thought it was but a mere fragment of his imagination. But as it became clear that Froome could not bravely fight on, the image became clear. Roaming across the field was a group of yellow horses, le cheval jaune, as a final farewell to the corageous Froome. Richie then knew what he had to do, ascended onto his bike, he started his heroic chase of the race leaders and the maillot jaune.

Brilliant!

You left out..

Porte rode on and noted that Alberto Contador the man who had cheated the sport was suffering. Porte looked at Thomas and said "let's go comrade, there's a grand tour to be won and we will do it clean!". With that Thomas mustered all the strength & experience he could from riding the classics to escape away from the Spanish amigos, Contador and Valverde. Leaving a trial of dust behind them and the dopers on the mud soaked cobblestones of France.
