I don't know, they payed freaking Poels around 1M per year and Diego Rosa overall got 3.5M over a time period of 3 years, so an actual gt winner getting close to 2M per year wouldn't surprise me.

Likely they got Carapaz even before the Giro happened. If so he's probably closer to Poels/Rosa money than 2M+.

Also likely that what he agreed/signed was in some way dependent on how he performed in the Giro and that he ends up with what is listed. The alternative is that the agent is an idiot or doesn't like money

Why would Carapaz sign a contract before the Giro, where he expected to be a contender? I don't see why this would be more likely than Sky, a team that is famous for throwing obscene amounts of money at everyone, throwing obscene amounts of money at him.

If Ineos offers him 1 point something mill, while he is on 150,000 or something on Movi and Ineos says now or never I'd be hard pressed to ignore it.

It could also be simply Ineos throwing obscene amount of money on everyone.

As far as I know he gets a seven figure salary overall and is pretty much allowed to ride all the races he likes between RR, CX and XC MTB, that's an awesome deal.
PS: He gets the money from Canyon, not Specialized.

I had a huge laughing melt down..almost wet myself..I know that 2 US teams have an overall budget of $1.1 million dollars and the more "elite" team has a complete budget of $1.4..
I wish Justin Williams and possibly Corey post payments..the guy is @30..wears the Stars and stripes national champion jersey..wins weekly during the US season..
I would bet that the top 5 domestic U.S. Pros..have not made collective career earnings what Peter Sagan makes in a year..
And just because I don't..I will let someone else post what the top female American professional makes from contract wages..

From what i remember, the season before van Aert started to focus on the road, they both had roughly 1M from cyclocross. It's not clear if that was only for their contract, or if this included sponsorship deals and starting fees. Another thing that is not quite clear, is if these listed numbers in this top 20 are only for road racing. Maybe van der Poel has 3 different contracts, one for the money, two for the road, eh, i mean one for cyclocross, one for the road and one for mountainbike?

In any case, i'm pretty sure both van der Poel and van Aert earn more than 1.5M per year, including sponsorship deals and starting fees in cyclocross.

Pogacar is earning way more than i was expecting (not sure his current status justifies that number compared to others in the list). Looks like UAE is 100% convinced he will turn into a GT powerhouse in no time.

I vaguely remember hearing his name, probably when he was making waves as a junior or something, but i can't recall seeing him anywhere near the top of the classifications since last he was mentioned. Can anybody tell me when this young powerhouse is about to break through? By the looks of it, his team must be expecting big things from him for the future!

Imho, there are at least 10 riders that don't belong (anymore) in that top 20.
There are 5 riders that are a level above all others and only one of them earns more than the top 3 earners at Ineos.
I fully understand now why riders are so happy signing for Ineos. Marginal gains in the wallet!
