Yes, that probably is an influence. After all, Italy always had better weather but PN usually had a better field.

It doesn't really excuse riders who are great on hilly courses though. A Martin or a Mollema isn't going to be favoured against the big four on a mini-GT course, but both should be top contenders on a hilly one.
Mollema is going for the mythical double, top 5 in the Tour and PN. Ambitious guy.

I absolutely agree with that, and I think P-N should realise that and try to make it the ideal (prep) race for the classics riders.

Imo I think this shows the benefit of races overlapping. Competition forces both races to do better.

Maybe the organisers of PN want a French winner ...I haven't seen their schedule but maybe Pinot & Bardet are doing it ?? and Barguil, Peraud are already down to do it . So the French on the podium??

Talansky (hence maybe why Martin is at T/A) & TJVG are down to do it as is Aru , Rui Costa,Kelderman & G Thomas ...so a pretty good field and could be exciting....
Nice to see a race with a more equal field and I like the parcours...why compete with T/A when you can offer something very different

who can blame him if a team pays him hundred thousands euros for a top 10 at the Tour?

I now and I like Mollema, that's why this is a disgrace :D
To go after this sort of goals he could have stayed where he was...

It's kind of what's happening already. Not too long ago, GC riders usually went to PN and classics riders usually went to TA. Now it's the opposite. Classics riders tend to go to PN more and more (from 2000 to 2010 no rider that rode PN won MSR the same year, whereas the MSR winner rode PN the same year 3/4 since) whereas GC riders seem to prefer TA.

Zdenek Stybar:

Murcia,
Almeria,
Algarve,
Strade Bianche
Tirreno-Adriatico
+ All classics

Zdenek will skip Qatar and Oman this year and will be riding Tirreno in stead of Paris-Nice. After Paris-Roubaix they will decide the program for the rest of the season.

I think he will not be riding TDF as his wife is expecting baby at the end of June

For current racing standards - yes- is a quite a busy schedule. What stands out for me is Tirreno, so i'm looking forward to see what he can do there.

This quote from Viviani makes me believe that these guys might do the Giro:

“We have some big riders for the sprints. If I think of the perfect train, I think of Geraint Thomas, Ben Swift, Bernie Eisel, Ian Stannard and Luke Rowe. It’s the perfect lead-out.

If that's his train it's not half bad although I'm surprised that Fenn and Sutton aren't the final two men.

This might be Sky's team I guess:

Porte, Deignan, Lopez, Thomas, Eisel, Swift, Stannard, Rowe, Viviani

I think the team will be:
Porte
Deignan
Seb.Henao
Earle
Puccio
Knees
Swift
Eisel
Viviani

I can't see Thomas riding the Giro, with the TDF to include cobbles, the same for Stannard. Other possibilities could include Rowe, Boswell, Lopez (as you say) and Siutsou.

Leo Konig is scheduled to ride the Giro as "co-captain", "backup leader" or whatever you want to call it ...

True leader :p

Seriously, Porte is a water boy that's it!

Strange to me that they don't give Kennaugh the chance to lead Sky at the Giro after his victories at Coppa Bartali and Tour of Austria last year.

And now seems to be even further down the pecking order.

If both Porte and Konig are going as leaders, Deignan is going to have a busy three weeks.

Thanks Netserk....I don't think he will do AG or LBL....not his type of races and will probably save himself for the Tour and training camps...In fact surprised he is doing FW
