Well, if we are talking about absolute numbers...
Zabel: 171 second places.

Ratios being:
- GVA: 67 first - 72 second
- WVA: 58 first - 50 second
- Zabel: 185 first - 171 second

The GVA comparison was due to WVA being compared to GVA for a time, then GVA had the nickname “Greg Van Average” due to always being close but no cigar in 2nd to 4th place.

Poulidor: 90-98. Fitting if he has the highest ratio among riders with >50 second places, although I expect you can find someone who beats him.

If we're doing this category, then we need also to talk about Roj4s' 10 wins, 28 second places, 43 third places, 49 4th places and 48 5th places.

Or Kelderman's WorldTour results.

Rojas just didn’t like winning.

I said a lock the get there eventually, as in before his career is over.
I understood but without getting any wins this year. He will be 36 years old with "only" 91 wins. His decline will start sooner than later (it already started IMHO) and Roglic is not the type of rider to farm races like Demare or Kristoff.

I really expected it to be Demare when the poll opened as he would be able to farm the French Cup for soft wins but for Pogacar to get there with at least 75-80% of his wins being world tour wins s staggering for a GC rider.
