I saw the finale a couple of times now and TBH he did not help Valverde that much. At the beginning when he was pulling on Colle de la Lombarda and was helping Chaves and Valverde at the same time. Then Chaves could not hold on any longer and Uran dragged Valverde for just a little bit. When he turned around and realized that Chaves was not coming back he stopped working with Valverde. And on television I did not see him pull again after that. I guess he was not interested in gaining much and it was Valverde responsibility for the fight of the podium and he realized that.

Some people care for nationalism and some don't. I am very nationalistic. But it was his choice not to stay back and that is what they should do if they are not on the same teams. Maybe if I was from Spain or Italy where they have so many champions I wouldn't be so nationalistic. Don't know.

Having said that, I have seen riders helping other riders for no reason, not even from the same country. So maybe the Commentators and I thought he would stay back but it wasn't the case. I really never mattered anyway because Chaves was too weak.

This is the second time that Uran ends up with great shape. This lead me to believe that he probably lacked kilometers before the race. It depends on every rider and he might be the kind that needs more. They should check what is going on with him. His TT abilities will come back once his shape is back, IMHO. At least he would be better and not horrendous.

They should take him to the Tour and then the Olympics. He does not do well with a second GT during the year so why not try the Tour instead of the lesser Vuelta. Besides at the Olympics everyone would be in very good shape coming from the Tour. Nibali and Valverde are doing it. He should too. Him and Henao are our best hopes for the Olympics. Henao might be gone then and I don't think he would have much of a chance against the riders coming from the Tour.

My 2 cents. :)

Just at the end of the stage an RCNs journalist ask Rigo about his help for Chavez and he said what we all see, just in the funny way hi always talk.

"Hice lo que pude, esa era mi intención, pero cuando las patas no dan, no dan"

And that was the simple truth, Estaban has nothing left in the tank, and I suffered just like you suffered, because I want that maglia rosa badly for our contry. But, for Esteban he is plenty of time to get better in the third week of GTs that is what he is lacking right now. For Urán, well he will have to reviews his goals, and I hope he will improve and find his mojo in one more GT.

Has become a train wreck and a laughing stock

I just think he was overrated by basically everyone (including me) as a GT contender, he's a good rider no doubt but there were always better high mountain climbers and apart from 1 season there are much better stage racing TT'ers. To me he is a 1 week stage racer/ 1 day racer. He can still bag top 10's in the weaker GT's but he would be better off as a stage hunter/Dom in GT's and focus on 1 week/1 day races

He has been second at Giro twice not even without chance to win. So I have to ask, what it means, to be overrated? His qualities no longer just in fans phantasies; the man actually managed something great there actually. That proves he wasn't overrated, only if you've been shouting "he will win it easily", than maybe yes.

I just think that those two second places was his absolute top level, he's a good quality rider and maybe he was unlucky not to win a Giro but I personally think he would of lost that 2014 Giro even without the Stelvio incident and nobody was going to beat Nibali in 2013. I currently can't see him getting back to that level with the GC talent that has come through the ranks since and would hope that he's not wasted by whoever he's riding for aiming for the lower rungs of the GC as I think he would make a great stage hunter in a GT.

Even with this explanation I don't see how was he overrated by almost everyone.I he can or can't get back on that level is different thing and has nothing to do with how good he actually was. Were there pletny of people saying he's biggest favourite for Giro or Tour win or something that would justice your word? I don't remember that.

Rider capable of 2nd spot at Giro is great rider.

He gained back time on Nibali and everyone else but Valverde, who was on his wheel, on the last rise of the Giro, finished higher than any but those two out of the GC group on the penultimate stage just this year.

Now, there are those of us who thought or hoped that he'd do better, but I think the consensus on him at the start of that race which he built his season upon wasn't that much higher than seventh. So I can't see how he's overrated, except perhaps as a time-trialist.

That's great news, he should have a classic Rui Costa schedule, that's probably the best for him.

Ironically, Costa is doing the Giro this year.
Yes, I know.
For Uran focussing on one week races, one day races and just stagehunting at the Tour would probably be the best thing to do. I think that this kind of schedule will benefit both Uran and his team.

The only problem with staeghunting at the TDF for Uran is the lack of summit finishes, which will make the GC riders more interested in going for the win in those stages. I know Uran is a great hilly rider and very good on the flat, but would he honestly have more chances to win a stage at the TDF than at the Giro?

For the first part of the year, he will be focusing on the classics (I'm assuming the Ardennes).
He will be at the tour and Dauphine but only as a stage hunter. No Giro.
My assumption is that he will focus once again in TTs for the year and his ultimate goal will be Lombardia.

San Sebastian has to be Pais Vasco I guess? :) Bit strange if not.
