Re: Uran to focus on classics this year

For the first part of the year, he will be focusing on the classics (I'm assuming the Ardennes).
He will be at the tour and Dauphine but only as a stage hunter. No Giro.
My assumption is that he will focus once again in TTs for the year and his ultimate goal will be Lombardia.

Well, he may be very unmotivated but he is the most motivated Colombian in the WT at the ITT :).
Let's see if he tries to get the national TT jersey again.

He still climbs well enough to make a difference on the cols in week-long stage races. His tt might be well enough to challenge or at least hold-off the likes of Porte then as well. I don't know, but imho he should definitely still focus on his tt somehow. Even if he becomes more of a classics rider nowadays.

My big question is how you can go from dominating a time trial like he did in the 2014-Giro to completely have forgotten how to ride them. It really shouldn't be possible considering how great a rider he is and how much power he has.

itt riding needs a lot of attention, when you stop training on your itt bike you're done these days. uran doesn't train on his itt bike, same with caisse depargne where his itt really started to suck as well

Since when does a GT rider who is a good TT rider not train on his TT bike ? It makes little sense but the problem is that his climbing has slipped as well compared to what it was. He has always been a good one day rider and probably should have done more in that area.

Rigo's decline has been so striking that it's outside the bounds of what I would consider normal. He is just 30, so if anything, he should be in his peak years. He has always been a very disciplined rider too, so I don't think it is due to a lack of focus.

I am not sure what decline. He is climbing equal or better this year than last year. Actually it was his TT that has declined or went completely south. It could be due to different issues.

But He is climbing OK this year. The routes have either been soft mountains or time trial driven. But he has been up there with the best almost every time.

I think he finished inside top10 (often in top5) on every selective finish he raced this year (in stage races), but as Escarabajo said, many races had TT-heavy routes this year. But his Ardennes campaign was disappointing. He was supposed to focus more on one-day races this year after doing well last autumn and fighting for victories in races like Lombardia. There's no excuse for him to finish outside top20 in LBL in these circumstances.

Also his TT is better compared to 2016 when you look at his average finishing position, but still nowhere near his best days and still below average for guys as strong as him.

In a Colombian forum we have been discussing about Uran an TT lately.

In 2014 we had an amazing level, look his performance on stage 12 in the Giro. But QSF is a team that always have focused on the TT, his training a couple years ago it was a lot on the TT bike, you could see on instagram, now in the Cannondale he don't train very frequently, and i heard that we is not very comfortable with the bike.

Look Tony Martin, in QSF we train a lot ot TT, now on Katusha, mmm i don't think so, maybe is that another example.

Uran is a weird rider, he is a diesel, he now focus on climbing, but his performance in Ardennes was very disappointing, he is 30 and i don't think he could won a week race, he is a level behind the best climbers, and his TT skills are so low, that even Bananito overcome him in Romandie.

We will have to wait until the Canadian Classics and Lombardia, maybe he would have his another peak of level.

He podiumed two Giros quite a while ago on the back of consistent riding in TTs and on the big climbs. He does neither now otherwise he would still be finishing on the podium or getting close.

He has indeed been climbing well in Tirreno-Adriatico and the Basque Country, and i thought things would look good for the Ardennes. And then he did absolutely nothing there, really disappointing. Romandie was not his parcours (easy mountains, lots of time trialling), but he distanced the Roglic group on the climb to Leysin, just to get caught on the line.

It is definelty better year then 2016 for Uran. He was in almost every top5 mtf in week races this year. But he missing something. He always in his career was second and I think he get used to it. Now his TT abilities rule out winning week races especially when he isn't stronger then best climbers in mtf. I thought that he will focus on one days races but Ardennes was completly disappointing. Now he will do Dauphine but hard to believe in good result there. After that TdF and maybe stage win - I can imagine that, but something tells me that he will be close but he will not achieve that.

TBH, I hoped for a verified information, not a speculation.

Uran has just been added to the provisional startlist of Vuelta. Maybe he will then ride Route du Sud instead of Dauphine/Suisse to keep more freshness for Vuelta?

Shut. Why did he have to go to Cannondale!!!

I saw yesterday in a video in YouTube that he was done with 3 week races. What a pity. He was actually climbing good this year. He could have gone stage hunting at the Tour with a very good chance.

Oh well there is an answer. I find it strange he podiumed two Giros, improved his TT by a lot and then not much later his GT performances went backwards.
