Lol. Two 2nd places in the Giro and two stage wins. Wow. Just managed to beat old man Evans in the first. World champion is of course bigger than that. But since you count everything Uran has done, you might as well add Liege and Fleche podium, Strade Bianche win, Algarve win etc.

The whole point was who to back in the Tour. Uran who won't get in the top-5 and won't be able to win any stages, or Kwiatkowski who is in stripes, can win stages and very likely to wear yellow in the first week.

The old man Evans was past his best at that stage but with six GT podiums including a Tour win plus the Worlds mentioning him in the same breath as Uran is a bit silly. Uran will battle to make the top 5 at the Tour and Kwia will be lucky to make the top 10. So we pretty much agree on their Tour chances. Now that Contador has had a fall, Astana will be all over the race which is probably only going to make the Giro harder for Uran.

Things have just not gone according to plan at all. No team, no health.
Rigo needs to get his act together about protecting the chest from those colds. Same thing happened at the vuelta last year.

El sereno, Uran's kryptonite.
wtf is this? you do realize you can never get sick from coldness right? not a human being has ever gotten sick of that. you only become sick from bacteries and viruses. not cold, or rain or anything like that.

Mock "El sereno" at your own peril.
You've been warned :p

Yeah, if you're caught mocking "El Sereno" you run the very real risk of an old lady waving a flip-flop coming at you.

Today Rigo was just behind Contador and he crashed as well, but he has nothing.

He said his cold is already the past, so his Giro start now. Gooo Rigo!!

He got sick in Romandie where he got wet and was very cold.

well- then why doesn't he go on the attack tomorrow on stage 7th, taking advantage of the Contador Accident & how the other teams will be conservative thinking about Saturday......

bottom line is - If he wants to take back time - is NOW- not until the ITT when he could well be 10 minutes behind -if his illness worsens & keeps under performing like the past days ....

I don't think you can just recover and push the switch overnight. It will take a few days IMHO. So let's wait and see.

Why rating podium places higher then real wins?

Uran just got a small palmares for a team leader. A Giro stage win and Piemonte. That's it. Rather poor.

Well if we're dismissing TT's (I'm guessing you're only counting Montasio) and GC placements, then Indurain was a terrible Tour GC leader (as was Wiggins for that matter). All he did was lead the GC. He should've gotten fired by his team.

Nah, they WON GTs, not just lead in them.

But yeah, I agree with majority of users here.

World Championship >>>>>>> Giro podium, and it is not even close.
The fact that Uran should have won Giro 2014 is different matter all along, and that would definitely change the perception of him.

And why not?! podium place in Giro certainly worth much more than Gran Piemonte, or Giro stage win. Quite a few riders in one generation is capable of achieving GT podium, much more can win GT stages and freaking Piemonte, and don't give me that *** that only wins counts, cause it's not like that!

So Armstrong didn't win any GTs. Guess that made him a terrible GC leader. If only Bruyneel would have known (that Armstrong was going to end his career being the biggest name in cycling history but with no significant results) I'm sure he would've signed someone else.

Edi: Parenthesis added for clarity

What's your point? Indurain actually won GT's and stage races. A lot. Uran doesn't.

And you're right. Forgot the Montasio stage. But he hasn't won anything big.

I say real wins. Like Amstel Gold Race and WC.

Missed the edit. I'm sure everyone remembers Poulidor for his Vuelta win and Andy Schleck for Liege and his Tour win. Otherwise they would've been far lesser stars than the likes of Laurent Brochard and Oscar Camenzind.

So winning isn't everything then, it's the only thing. After today's finish, I'll give you that for some people that will always be the case.
