A fantastic win for the GB hockey ladies, one of my moments of the games from a British perspective against a very strong Dutch side who were the better team, but sport would be boring if there was not a few upsets along the way.

Maddie Hinch was superb in goal and kept GB in it whilst taking their few chances when they came along.

Trinigad and Tobago and Great Britain disqualified for the 4 x 400M relay race?!

I must admit im not up to scratch with the rules and regs but I have absolutely no idea why the GB team were DQ'd there and neither does anyone in the studios including Michael Johnson.

Just in that GB have appealed the decision.

Martin Rooney started too fast.

Now the U.S 4x100 team DQ'd from their bronze medal, crazy scenes tonight.

Yeah, illegal baton exchange. Like I said, the Americans are terrible at relay races, they only win/medal so often because they have the biggest talent pool when it comes to athletics. The Jamaicans are technically much better at relay races.

The American women team are better than their male counterparts though. I guess the men are too full of themselves to train together... Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay should just retire.

Yeah they do seem to make a lot of mistakes at the big meets, I thought he may retire but Gatlin said after the relay that he intends to be at London next year for the Worlds.

that sucked in the taekwando, imagine losing a gold medal in the last second.

Absolutely gutted for Lutalo, I think he made the ultimate mistake of relaxing in the last couple of seconds thinking the win was secured, credit to his opponent though for a great kick to the head to secure the winning points.

So the only damage done was Lochte pulled down a metal sign. The guards did draw a gun, and Lochte did initially resist. The guards demanded money before allowing the swimmers to leave.

Considering that he was under the influence at the time, I’d say Lochte’s account of the events was fairly accurate. It sounds as though he was recounting the events as he remembered them, not embellishing them to make him sound good, let alone as some excuse for why they were late, if they even were late. Again, if this happened in the U.S., the victims could file a report of robbery, and very unlikely they would be charged with making a false report.

Surprised no mention that if DeGrasse had run his semi time in the finals of the 200, it would have been a photo finish. Or maybe he would have pushed Bolt do go faster. I guess DeGrasse looks greener on the far side of the curve.
Someone's on De Grasse.

....more on the Lochte incident...oh my this is getting very juicy....may become the story of these games....Rio, The Ugly American Games...
Ugly indeed. It looks like Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz have now both told officials there was no robbery, and they were drunk. Jimmy Feigen has paid $11,000 to charity to have it go away, which is apparently an option of Brazilian law when dealing with some non-violent, misdemeanor-like crimes. This entire charade makes my entire country look bad.

That second article on Ryan Lochte and his ego really is spot on. If he were smart, he'd give an apologetic statement asap, saying they were drunk and foolish and regrets his actions and statements, and is willing to pay any restitution. He's the biggest fish here (no pun intended) and it's only going to get worse here if he doesn't.

To be fair it doesn't reflect that badly on the US because Lochte is genuinely incredibly stupid, and everyone has those types of dumb fratty jocks.

If Bolt had competed in the long jump since 2008 we might now be wondering whether he will attempt the Quadruple Quadruple in 2020.

in the wrestling a Russian was winning 6-0 over the Iranian. He was still 6-4 ahead with 3 seconds left. The Iranian scored 2 points in the last 3 seconds and won on the technicality that whoever scores the last point, wins

The women's foil final almost had this, the Italian got within an inch of levelling the scores in the last second. I think, though, the taekwondo final really tops it all.

.....more fun courtesy of the LochMess Monster....

Ryan Lochte & Hope Solo Making America Great Again...LOL!!!
A liar and a poor sport with too much to say,
How embarrassing for the U.S.A,
The world is watching and getting to see,
Just exactly how ignorant some countries can be,

....but shouldn't affect his post swimming job prospects....

I hear that there is a vacancy open for the Trump Campaign Manger position. I think that Lochte is totally qualified for the job- arrogant, lie with a straight face a willing to run from his own mess when the going gets tough coupled with no loyalty to anyone but himself

Has a bright future in the State Dept or White House or Hillary's campaign.

Cheers

LochMess should be deported to face any charges, like falsifying reports of a crime.

Hope should change her name to Hopeless. Knowing her having grown up around here, she's not a good person deep down. And she's got maybe the worst first hand support having married a person far worse than her. So it really hopeless for her.

Sounds kind of suspicious to me.

An interesting Rio Olympics trivia...
In team sports USA and Serbia lead the board with three finals each.
Also, Serbia has won a bronze in women's basketball and USA are fighting for the medals in volleyball.

I don't think Loche reported his crime to the police. So the only thing he did was damage a metal advertisement plate. A lot of fuss about nothing (which is his own fault though). There are a lot of Olympians out there who did far worse things, like Phelps for example.

Vandalism and making up a crime and so wasting police time in a city where there is more than enough already to do is quite a bit worse than smoking pot.

Is it also worse than DUI?

And please, the police in Brazil is useless and corrupt.

Yeah I'd say so. Lying about a crime is pretty bad. And Lochte is a first class * in general.

So pulling down a metal plate is worse than potentially killing people in traffic, alright then.

Ok maybe not, but IIRC he wasn't that high over the limit and you have to bear in mind that he wasn't exactly mentally stable at the time - he was going through quite a bad bout of depression so I harbour much more sympathy for him than Lochte.
