do you mean the frequency, or the margin? I've been thinking the same thing, especially when we were told that when skin suits disappeared the records wouldn't be broken for years.SeriousSam said:What's the reason world records fall so easily in swimming?

looking at peaty taking nearly a second in just under a minute, that is a phenomenal improvement.

And what's the reason swimming is so often flushed with 15 to 17 year olds?SeriousSam said:What's the reason world records fall so easily in swimming?

And omg Djokovic is out of the tennis tournament. If Nadal somehow wins this it would be incredible after his season so far but right now there aren't so many top players left. Thats btw also the reason why I think Dominic Thiem is incredibly stupid to just skip the Olympics. Wawrinka and Federer don't participate, I doubt that Nadal is in top shape (although I heard his first match was pretty good) and now Djokovic is already out. He still would have been an outsider but in Tennis everything can happen and under this circumstances a medal definitely would have been possible.

Seems like he felt that he doesn't have a form to do anything so decided not to go.
He already announced that he won't go to rio before Paris, so at a time where his shape was great.roundabout said:He lost in the first game that he played in the previous 2 tournaments.

I'm puzzled why rhythmic gymnastics is there, same with trampoline, though you never see them anywhere else I guess. I'll barely let BMX slide, though I can see why some don't want it. The one sport that really needs to not be there though is golf. Is golf even a sport?
Of course, I'm one who doesn't like judged events being considered part of the medal count. I think they belong in their own category. Like exhibition sports.
Climbing is a great sport and competitions are afaik usually on fake courses. Watch some clips, that sport can be extremely impressive sometimes.Cannibal72 said:Alpe d'Huez said:Tennis is a sport I just don't see belonging in the Olympics. I agree that those sports don't belong, but the new sports for 2020 are considerably worse - baseball/softball (yay, the USA really, really needs more medals!), karate (I'm unconvinced martial arts need a place in the Games), roller sports (what is this, the 1980s?), surfing (hard for me to take seriously, frankly, and not really that interesting to watch), and sport climbing (surely proper sport climbing is done out on real mountains, not on fake courses?). Yet squash, which I think could be fairly telegenic if the coverage is presented properly, is still out. As is tug-of-war. Which is indefensible.

Maybe the pool is short
Back in the 1960s a local authority in the UK managed to build what was supposed to be an Olympic size pool which turned out some inches too short.

Be was basically kicked out for 'disobeying the rules' of the Olympic team. They basically say they had no choice. But they had. They could've let him compete. But apparently NOC NSF needs to have this holier than thou attitude to kick an athlete out who's done nothing against the rules of the sport itself. Makes me cringe
Surfing doesn't belong at the Olympic because it's not what surfing is about - very little of surfing has anything to do with competition with others. Others, including myself, find it very entertaining to watch.Cannibal72 said:Alpe d'Huez said:Tennis is a sport I just don't see belonging in the Olympics. I don't really follow gymnastics, but he's the former euro and world champ, but I don't think he was a favourite for a medal, but then it's gymnastics and a lot of *** can happen in a final like that.Cannibal72 said:Red Rick said:Dutch gymnast Yuri van Gelder was kicked out the Olympics by NOC NSF for reportedly going out after qualifying for the finals on the Rings. Do you know if he had any chance of doing well? It does seem singularly ridiculous and puritanical.
