On the day that Eurosport disappears in the UK & Ireland, WarnerBrosDiscovery have released their financial report for 2024 (see HERE if you're so inclined) and a little titbit in their shareholders report,
We recently struck a nonexclusive agreement to launch on Sky in the UK and Ireland that will bring Max to approximately 10 million of their current subscribers by the second quarter of 2026 and affords us the flexibility to potentially reach consumers not currently served by Sky. ... Over the next two years, we plan to launch Max in numerous markets with significant potential, including Australia at the end of March 2025, Germany and Italy in the first quarter of 2026, and the UK and Ireland right after.
We will continue to opportunistically consider sports rights as they become available.

I have wondered why cycling doesn't fit on YouTube or Amazon.. I currently don't use YouTube TV, but when I see all monthly expenses.. Netflix $16 per month, Max was $16 a month or almost 25% savings by going a one time yearly of $149 . Peacock is $8 a month, or save $2 dollars a month by a one year advanced payment of $80..Apple TV is similar$10 a month or save by $100 for the year.. And my T-Mobile internet is $50 a month.. I don't see American people, regular people paying so much for TV subscriptions I will pay extra to see bicycle and motorcycle racing. But I have the feeling that if it gets above @$100-125 a month it will turn out like cable and people will abandon because of the expense. I personally think that these companies have grossly overestimated how much consumers will pay and what is the threshold for all the division..
I don't know what the arrangement looks like for American football teams but adding Netflix and Amazon was a big expense for people, MavTV is great!!Amazon is $120 a year, movie and TV content is terrible,
I definitely feel like average surveyed American and have less and less consumer confidence. Not in a hurry to take on hundreds of dollars per month in boutique TV subscriptions!!

I see Warner bros sh*tification channel “Quest” now occupies the same slot UK Gold used to.

It isn’t fit to clean the boots of Gold, many fond memories of my adolescence, coming back at 5 in the morning leathered, kebab in hand and watching a coke fuelled Craig Charles commentate episodes of Takeshi’s Castle from his portacabin in Leicester. Raw, one take, cost nothing to produce, absolute magic. How dare Blythe and Orla stand where Craig once did.

As my old man used to say, you wipe down the walls and I'll call the priest. Sayonara Eurosport.

on Freeview ? hasnt moved on Sky yet, but makes sense for them to give Quest more prominence, and UK Gold is just U now isnt it.

Yeah freeview channel 12 I believe, if my memory is right 12 used to be occupied by ukgold2 aka ‘Dave’, had a look and it seems gold1 is sky only.

Might’ve been “challenge” that Castle was on anyway, alongside reruns of crystal maze and it’s a knockout, featuring Frank Bruno.

Needless to say my days of paying much for tv ended a long time ago, going to see if I can VPN my way to America probably and see what they have going for them, though I heard they are due to get shafted also.

Talk of "generational disruption" and still trying to figure out how to put together sports programming does not sound good. I'll guess something new in the pipeline after July.

On the sports and news front, we recognize and we’ve said, I think fairly openly, that we’re continuing to experiment on what the right model is, and the reality is we have a variety of different models in operation around the world.
We’re going to continue to experiment and see what works, and we have the beauty of a global footprint with rights across the world that we can experiment with.

Is it a coincidence that Declan Quigley is back on comms at Gran Camino? It was Hatch the other day right? Is Quiqley back now? Seems he was surplus at Eurosport/GCN? Or did he just have a different contract with other international rights etc?

Anyway, good to have him back, I always felt he was a good commentator for the classics, bit boring but understood the race situation, much better than Kirby but nowhere near David Harmon when he was on.

I currently have an EE phone contract that includes Discovery+ and TNT as an add on for a relatively cheep price considering the increase that has happened recently….be interesting to see if the cost goes up, considering it had Eurosport anyway. Wouldn’t surprise me.

But yeah that might be the way to go for people who say they can’t afford it. Get a cheap phone but pay £40 per month for the privilege. Which some people pay anyway (and more) for a better phone. Then you are really only paying £9 per month for a phone.

Is that TNT's 'basic' package (ie nothing now), or TNT Premium?

I'm not sure if it's been rebranded now, because Ive had it for a few years now, so I couldn't tell you. But I can still get all the TNT Sports channels on the Discovery app and can watch the cycling. I mainly got it as an extra to watch the football when it was initially BT Sport.
Thank you. It's becoming ridiculously confusing as what is, or isn't being offered across various platforms by Warner Brothers.

It's just crazy to lose Eurosport and particularly Tour coverage in terms of free access. It's like you aren’t a cycling nation any more. Hopefully UK can fight this draconian state of affairs off eventually and to prevent it spread further.

What can you do when ITV declined to bid for the TDF because audience figures and the financials did not work.

Is anybody else in the 'blind spot'?

I cancelled my subscription and then immediately accepted the £15.49 for 7 months offer.

This gave me cycling up to 28 February, the cut-off date and cycling from my next renewal date which is 3 March. This means 1 & 2 March are a 'blind spot' and I have no Omloop, O Gran Camino, etc.

I felt a bit of a gut punch..I see that The Move podcast (WEDU) which is the Lance Armstrong, Johan Bruyneel, sometimes George Hindcappie podcast is now saying that there will be another subdivision, and much of the content will be in a members only section!! I currently watch The Move because YouTube algorithm steers me there.. I will never, would never pay for any of this schit!!!

2027 no free to air Tour in UK
yet:

joined up thinking please
Gotta love pro-cycling, the day Eurosport goes off the air in the UK, they announce the probable Grand Depart for 2027 in the UK.
What's the chance of a limited offer for new TNT Sports subscribers in the month before the Grand Depart, or some other despicable corporate shenanigans?

Itv4 will show the tdf this year but after that, it's curtains. Tg4 will show the tour this year and it looks like they will continue to show it next year. Tg4 have lost the rights for the women's tdf.
Lemme get this straight: it's relatively cheap to watch cycling in countries where it's an established sport, but in countries where it's an obscure outlier sport like surfing, it's exhorbitantly expensive. Clear discrimination against the wasp community.
