He's no longer with us...I thought it'd be a good idea to do a sort of a tribute thread for him. I'm guessing i'm not the only person here who is devastated by the news. And lets be honest, he was probably getting a thread sooner or later, he was a great talent. I have a lot of happy memories of Gino from pro-cycling manager so this one does hit rather hard.

Lets remember the good stuff about him. Like that time he donated money to charity for every rider he beat at he Vuelta... He finished 5th on GC.

& of course, throwback time to that Giro stage win. He was due to win a lot more races. Alas...
He did it again the following year

Of course OP can change it.

I just edited the title to make it easier to find in the future.

But tbh I find the OP good as it is. Sometimes it's ok to be speechless.
Well whatever people think is best. I was the OP, but my op is now on page 2 for some reason. Never mind the stuff I wrote, I just thought a picture of Gino celebrating one of his finest moments of his career ought to be the first thing people see when they come here. Is it possible to just add the picture?

oh, you were the OP? Then my bad, I guess the merge made the oldest post the new OP. It wasn't my intention, I'll try to correct it...

edit: I did my best... unfortunately there seems to be no way to set a newer post as the OP. Had to copy it manually.

So heartbreaking to see the news. Rest in peace, Gino. You will be missed. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and team.

Admins lock forum for 1 day, to make silence and stop arguing what is right what is not.
RIP Gino

Just saw pictures of Sheffield sitting on the grass having to watch them try and save his life, what a horrible scenario

Poor kid. I cannot even begin to imagine how awful he's feeling right now. I remember seeing Adrian Sutil observing what happened to Jules Bianchi... he was distraught & I don't think he was ever the same again. Makes you appreciate people who work in the emergency services, they're made of sterner stuff than me.

I remember Mäder from looking up junior and u23 races with Bernal, Lambrecht, Sivakov... because those races were hardly ever filmed or broadcast. Mäder was one of the most talented riders of his generation and often named in one breath along with those i mentioned. Then after turning pro, at first it didn't go all too smoothly compared to his youth rivals and he had some physical setbacks iirc. But he managed to push through and finally broke through, with some great results. And he wasn't done yet.

RIP Gino, all the love and thoughts to your loved ones.

Of that generation, born 1997, now two of the 5 most talented riders are no longer with us. Lambrecht already lost his life in Poland 2019. On top of that, Bernal barely escaped death last year.

I'm truly very emotional about this. I love cycling, but, how I can I keep on loving it when such tragedies happen?

He seemed like a great guy, with a very bright future ahead of him still. Now that future has been wiped out. My heart goes out to his family, and actually to all the rider's families.

Terrible. I feel devasted. Same vibes as Bjorg or any of the other young guys that are no longer here.

I hope this triggers an investigation, not to find culprits of blame people but perhaps to get a protocol that could lead to less of these kinds of disasters.

Rip Gino. You will be missed.
