The outcome could have been so much different if teams actually committed, namely the two big ones.They are going to come back, and Alpecin will have lost a couple of riders for the last 50-100km's. This isn't game over for that group, otherwise Alpecin would have dropped every rider they have from the front.
You don't need to go full gas for 250km. You only need to go as long as it takes to kill the group behind. You have a bigger group with stronger guys. It is not rocket scienceThey will come back. Not like the peloton is going to go full gass for 250km.
