The question is, is the Tour ready for Samu?

I dont think it is.

Is the forum ready for the AsturianCycleFan? :D

BTW, WTF are you doing in Madrid posting to the forum instead of going to the wild fiesta this weekend there?

In the cycle sport piece Samu says he probably will skip the 2012 Tour and is very interested in doing that years Giro.

Imagine that. The worlds greatest rider at its greatest race.

The white by the way is Rigoberto Uran, not Alejandro Valverde;)
No Andy and Andrew are not already in doping control/podium etc

Samu looks like he is about to take a really hard ****.

Your fanboyism is becoming, strangely familiar.

A real eye opner.

Stupid rules giving Samus opponents a 2 and a half minute head start.

This Tour is tainted. Only Samu will ride out of this Tour a champion.

please dear god, make samu have the balls to go with alberto before the last climb, guide him in the descent and then watch alberto win by more than 3min :)

If he was positioned properly when the crash happened he would've been fine. It's his and the teams fault, no one else.

Suprise suprise, when it happens to HIS guy, Hitch turns out to be the same as all other fanboys ;)
I'd hate for The Hitch to read this:p

Meh, I don't entirely agree. Samu and Contador know the rules. It is **** when something like this happens to your favourite rider but that's cycling. I certainly can empathise with you. I certainly do feel sorry for you. It certainly sucks when this **** happens. But Samu needs to pick himself up, rally the team and look to attack. It is only the 1st day.

Samu, balls? He's been a very conservative rider for years now.

Thats a lot easier to say behind a computer. Sometimes i dont think people realise how hard cycling is as a sport.

What you are saying is that he should put himself under extreme pain day after day for something thats already been taken away from him.

If I were Samu i would save myself for another race.

I think I'm in agreement in that I'd prefer to see the gap to the first crash group neutralized to 40-50 seconds or whatever it was, because they were held up by the second crash inside the 3k mark. It would probably be better if Sanchez made the protest, because I don't think it's Contador's style and also I don't know if he could get away with it PR-wise.

I wonder if Sanchez and Contador will work together for the rest of the tour and kick some serious ***. Looking at the bright side, would you give up a minute on day one in exchange for an asset like that?

The rules are there. Every bike racer knows them. If you crash outside the 3pm mark you have to chase regardless of whether another crash holds you up. Positioning is part of racing as are crashes. I'm sure both Samu and Conti accept that and will move on.

I also highly doubt they will work together. The bright side is it will force Conti to attack earlier and should make it a bit more interesting

A poor display in the TTT and I think that's exactly what will happen - save for spicing things up when going for a stage or two. Even if Sanchez is no longer in contention for a top GC spot (and that's still an if surely), he still has a lot to offer this Tour.
