Surprised that no-one's commented on that fact that Vini-Fantini were able to talk their way out of getting a random test at the end of the Tour of Japan earlier in the year

Thats against very much against the WADA code, and the DCO in charge of that event should be in for a rollicking at the very least.

Technically speaking it should count as "refused to give sample", and hence lead to a 2 year suspension of that rider.

Marcel six got an 18 month ban for refusing a sample at the Halford Tour series (Canary Wharf) in May 2012. Thats a much lower level event than the Tour of Japan.

Consistency and transparency is a fundamental requirement of Anti-doping testing.

yea, puffy cheeks started doping the minute he signed with Vini Fantini. Squeaky clean until then, especially during any of BMC's tour campaigns.
No one can seriously defend that theory (hello, 2009 Lampre), but it's pretty obvious he went in deeper at Vini Fantini. This was a guy who could be Evans' climbing domestique on his best day, if Evans had a broken elbow and couldn't follow the top 40 riders in the race.

I guess many will be surprised to learn just how "poor" some dopers are when the toys are taken away.

Not me.

I am kind of surprised at these reports.
"I can only say that I am in disbelief about what has happened and will request the counter analysis as soon as possible," Santambrogio told Ansa.it.
and then
“[Santambrogio] didn’t respond to my telephone calls, so I sent him a text message and told him to be a man and respond,” Scinto told Gazzetta dello Sport. “Then he called to say ‘sorry, I betrayed you.’ And this is enough for him? He’s putting 38 people out into the street.”
In short a denial in the media as well as a witness relaying corroboration.:rolleyes::D

He's obviously in denial that he was stupid enough to get caught. :D

Scinto can only blame himself for believing in miracles, when it's too good to be true, it generally is!

You really think he didn't know of it? All of them were doped, he's trying to save his face. Obviously he was involved, di luca and santa both took the same sh!t.

And their team was performing really well in the giro, obvious teamdoping. The only reason why no one else prob didn't get caught is cause they're fodder.

The question should always be who is doing what.
I don't understand the red line on Frédéric PORTOLEAU's plot. There is hardly a trend in Nibali's performance for this year. If anything he kept his performance flat during this year's Giro. I wish there was no cancellation of mountains so that way we could have stated for real whether there was or not a decline in Nibali's performance. But with short climbs and only at the end of the stage it was hard to establish any real trend.

Dunno, why would Santa apologize for letting him down then?

Nibali's been on the rivet all season, from TA onwards and has looked a class act in everything he's raced in. As much as for his mental toughness as his physical ability though, and I for one give him massive props for that. Big cajones as has been pointed out. I guess his TT performances may raise eyebrows but given the conditions and the flattening of the high mountains I wouldn't read too much into his Giro performance.

Apart from the fact he is hard as blinkin' nails. Chapeau

Really only Santa was performing at the Giro. Even Di Luca came up short despite having a go. Gatto was nowhere, Rabottini ditto, Garzelli too. Despite their being strong on paper.

Di Luca did ok for a guy who had like 2 race days before the Giro.

their TTT was quite eye-opening. Shame they decided to tone it down after ;)

''The red line would be equivalent to the power profile record in the "aerobic threshold" zone (Pinot J, Cluster F. The "Power Profile" for Determining the physical Capacities of a cyclist. Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 13 (S1): 103-104, 2010).''

In other words, Nibali 'underperformed' on Montasio and Telegraphe according to the data.

That could be a bit misleading. Since he decided to stay with the other GC contenders on those climbs he did not have to go to his limit.

"The nice thing is, the peloton is rebelling," Acquarone said. "The bunch longer accepts certain things, and will point a finger, denouncing that what they say seems anomalous. First there are the voices, then the analysis to nail the cheaters."

So has somebody from the Peloton called Froome yet???

Good deflection, I notice everytime someone gets popped the common refrain is 'yes but what about Sky?'. However this is Santa busted, and this is the thread about that.
