Stand back everyone, the hate is strong with this one.

hate? i like him! i hate andy!

still, you cant put in the the same classic champions level as cancellara bonne or valverde. maybe one day! and you cant even call him "a rider with class" when riders like the others mentioned are not only better at classics, but much more better in general.

is this hate? and i tought that i liked to watch him race. lol

i have nothing against gilbert. he is very exciting to watch and he has an amazing aceleration.

but to be the best or to dominate, you have to win. he didnt won any big classic so far besides lombardia against a sh*tty field both in riders' name and shape. still, i give credits to him to be in discussion in all momunents. but that doesnt matter. to a champion, you win or lose. he loses (besides lombardia).

what i dont like, is this hype.

and

"he is much younger than the others"-look at cancelara's age for example.
"he is so dominating"- i have this stupid theory: to dominate, you have to win. lol

etc etc..

amd parrulo, the reason that made me say that about TTs stage races etc is:

-not only bonnen cancellara and valverde etc are better at classics, they are much more better as cyclist if you look to the other side of their palmares. does gilbert even as another side? no.

even if he wins LBL ronde and PR next year, he will have to do it again to compete against other palmares (just counting classics).

there is an huge difference in class when you think about gilbert and valverde for example. maybe this just shows how we need new classics riders. there was an huge gap between bartoli mussew rebellin di luca bettini van petegem etc. now we only have gilbert just looking for classics.. and he isnt at the same level as others -not just classics- riders.

maybe now with EBH sagan mathews etc etc..

So you dislike Gilbert because of the things OTHER PEOPLE say about him...well, that makes sense...

And you are right, there is a major difference in class between Valvpiti and Gilbert. One of those people is a whiny busted doper who isn't man enough to admit to his actions, and the other guy didn't do any of those things.

Uh, you disparage a guy because of the things others say about him. You minimize his accomplishments, which are stellar in anyone's book, and simply will not back off comparing him to people who at the same age had achieved less. What was I thinking? You love the guy...

at the same age achieved less?????????

who??
cancelara?
bonen?
valverde?
are you trying to troll someone??

based on you last posts, you dont know how to read properly. so maybe this is a waste of my time. however, it is saturday, afternoon.

-i like gilbert.
-i dont like people who says things about him like if he was a champion or something.
-there are riders better at classics and much better overall.

(this isnt the place to talk about the d-word. but since you dont know how to read i am warning you. i wouldnt be surprised if someone came here to talk to you about that post. still, based on what you said, i feel sorry for you, but especially for those that live with you.)

And you still haven't answered to the post with Bettini.

Bettini won less than Gilbert at the same age... look at how Bettini ended

Not sure if anyone has already posted this, but here is an incoherent video from La Gazzetta. You can also see the finish in the end.

i apologise for that.

the reason is very simple. you do know the problems between bettini and bartoli right? bettini only started to win because bartoli had a fall. other than that and maybe we wouldnt even know the guy's name.

not only that, bettini had to compete against other hilly classics specialists, real champions in those races. nowadays, they are almost extint.

rebelin was still kicking *** at 38.. this says a lot. like, for example, no competition.

no, i dont think that i am an iluminatti and i dont hate gilbert. this is just the truth, based on facts. there is no personal opinion in it.

p.s. maybe i am wrong, but didnt bettini won a LBL at 28? but this doesnt matter.

Belgian news is weird.

They show who won the stage in the Driedaagse van West Vlaanderen, but say nothing about Murcia or Strade Bianche.

Paolo Bettini won LBL in 2000 and 2002. Bartoli won Lombardia in 2002 and 2003.

LBL is not short of competition... Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck, Valverde(will only miss 2011, he was there in 2010), Gilbert, Vinokourov, etc

Classics specialists tend to get better when they get older. At least some of them, so it isn't that surprising to see an old dude winning a monument. They have a lot of experience and can time their attacks better usually.

Gilbert raced with a very small team and this is just his third season with a big team.

Even Bettini has already said Gilbert is his real successor. As did Michele Bartoli. Gilbert him self wants to be compared to Bartoli instead of Bettini(his own words)

Even Il Falco also called Gilbert the new Bettini.

Yeah, saying Gilbert won Lombardia because of a weak field is ridicolous. A lot of inform riders made it their goal at the end of the season. Not only Sanchez and Scarponi

who was there fresh as gilbert and with pedigree in those races? nibali? two hard GTs.. scarponi? giro fTW and sanchez after a tour FTW.
they werent in good shape.. unlike gilbert that only hits the gas in some classics and in 2 GT stages.

gilbert is very very good. but not great, especially as a cyclist in general.

oh.. and it does look like that at 28 years, bettini had won 2 LBL.

lombardia's field is very strong and amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you dont compare it to LBL for example. lol

Il Giro was 5 months before Lombardia. If you can't find a new peak during that time then you shouldn't have become a cyclist.

Fact is Lombardia is right after the worlds, and a lot of people peak for the worlds. If you peak for the worlds, you're still in peak form at Lombardia. Or else you suck *** and Gilbert doesn't.

All of those great stars you named like Boonen and Cancellara can't win a cobbled classic and hilly classic. There's only one man and one man only that can make that bridge. It's Philippe Gilbert. And that's why he's the best classics specialist in cycling today(my opinion).

I believe Sanchez could have already been recuperated by mid-October... And Scarponi raced the Giro almost 5 months prior to Lombardia...
What are you doing over there, smoking crack?

Jersey looks better than I thought.

Also a lot of people there it seems.

This really needs to be turned in a classic on the same level as FW and AGR. And I'm not just saying this because Gilbert won :p

Look at the previous winners: Kolobnev, Cancellara, Gilbert, Iglinsky

Perhaps adding this race and the Omloop to the World Tour would do a lot of good things for both races. Perhaps in 60 years this could rival some other important Italian races.

Best solution would be to scrap the world tour all together!
