Surely it's much easier to find a co-sponsor to pay a smaller amount of euro then it is to find somebody to be a title sponsor. I mean Saxo Bank is a 10-15m euro per year team, so it's hard to find companies that will fork out so much money.

Maybe Riis should try to find sponsors in China. There are a lot of companies there knowing nothing of cycling. :D

To be honest, IF I am correct Chinese are starting to put more money in Asian cycling, so this wouldn't even be that far fetched, make a combined team, like Skil-Shimano, with an European and an Asian branch, Just include some Chinese riders in the european branch and you're good to go

Hog tried to do that, by sending a team to the Tour of Qinghai Lake in China in 2007, and he fielded Fuyu Li in the hope of trying to get a new sponsor. Didn't work although, Allan Davis won 5 stages and Chechu Rubiera got a stage win.

Are you serious? No one will notice Skil. Supporting a team having good results in TdF and then trying to get some Chinese riders to the team is a far better idea i think. HTC, Giant and Garmin all are good examples. Is there any East Asian rider in Columbia, Garmin or Rabobank? Taiwanese still feel very proud of them and these companies all are glad to sponsor a team with no East Asian.;)

:p He made a mistake. He should learn from Bob Stapleton. Dont take part in those races that no one is able to watch them. Sponsors prefer your excellent preformances in TdF to in their homeland. Tour of Qinghai Lake or Tour of Taiwan is not something like RVV. These sponsors dont care who wins in these races. But they will be very glad to sponsor the TdF broadcast.

Maybe it is too hard for Europeans and Amercians to imagine. :D

I meant like Skil-Shimano, which currently is such a combined squad, with an eastern and an European branch

WTA: But he remains the boss of Team Saxo Bank, not sure exactly what the significance is.

Not "just" I think it actually happened a month ago, but obviously it's only interesting now...

The significance could well be nothing. I think there are some strict rules on corporate structure in Denmark, so maybe that's it? Maybe a request from a potential sponsor? Often it's quite good if the same people aren't involved in all the levels of a company.

I think if he was truly on his way out it would be with more of a bang and in one go...

Yeah, I read another article and it says it's just a formality with no actual significance.

Laurent Didier said that he "has not been approached to be a part of Kim Andersen's new team" and since he still has a contract with Riis for next season, he'll stay with him if he succeeds in finding a sponsor.

It seems then that the Schlecks are likely to be the only Luxembourgers on the Luxembourg team!

Maybe the Haedo brothers, depending on whether or not they still have a contract with Riis? Couldn't really imagine any high profile sprinters though

i imagine that one of the reason's Riis hasn't got a sponsor is he has this turmoil in his team and possible sponsors have been poached by K Andersen....

It's a doubled-edged sword. The Schlecks and Andersen knew there was a good chance that Riis might not find a new sponsor, and have to look after themselves and their own future.

Susan

that's their story and their sticking to it:rolleyes: or maybe they wanted a bigger piece of the pie regardless and Riis said not until you win a TdF and deserve it....truth will out at some stage by someone bitter, seems to be the way lately:)

Read in the paper today that Brechel, Fuglsang and O'Grady are going to the Schleck team.
I think this does not bode will for a possible sponsorship, perhaps the press conference is to announce the end of the team
