Contador could clearly see that Andy dropped his chain, and then went into turbo-mode up that mountain..

No he didnt.

This is just ridiculous, taking it to extremes now.

3 times in that Tour Contador dropped Samuel Sanchez and Dennis Menchov with ease. Much much ease.

And yet we are supposed to believe that when on stage 16 Samu and Menchov were side by side with Contador, he was going "turbo mode".

tdf 01 - Ullrich crashes on descent, LA sits up and waits for him

tdf 03 - LA crashes on Luz Ardiden, Ullrich slows group down for Armstrong

Ullrich was his biggest opponent that year, but he waited. Also I can tell you that neither Ullrich or LA would take advantage of that chain error that happened to Andy.

TDF 10 Schleck doesn't wait
TDF 10 2 weeks later, Contador doesn't wait.

And considering what Lance has done to people like Simeoni I don't see why he should be a moral role model for anyone.

Lance said that when he waited for Ullrich it was a different situation than Chain gate. The game was on when Schleck attacked.

Well i ques there has been so much debate about the chaingate event that we probably won't agree on it anytime soon lol!

I used LA/Ullrich to give a example how 2 big GC contenders can ride too.. fair play..

Also what are you saying? LA is all bad and Simeoni is such a nice guy?

"in July 2003. Simeoni lodged a charge of defamation against Armstrong and demanded €100,000."

Nice dude indeed.

Okay well on Luz Ardiden the game was on too and Ullrich + the whole group waited. Time difference between LA/Ullrich was like 0.20 seconds I think.

Also:

Lance Armstrong did let the concern pass without having bringing up two old incidents exactly where he was concerned: “in 2003 I felt down and the rest waited for me, and in 2001 I waited for Ullrich when he felt down”. The 7 times champion of the Tour thinks that Contador’s steps exactly where not appropriate, that he should have waited.

I think it's not unfair to suggest Contador didn't wait...and did attack...but frankly Schleklett aint a saint either and needs to quit his ridiculous whining, his generally inept bike handling skills, which caused his chain to slip in the first place shouldn't be ignored either.

According to Andy people don't want to see riders "attacking" on downhills either....and lest we not forget he and Frank always have Fab to ride at the front of the bunch forcing a go slow if one of them finds rain a bit too much of an impediment....

I'd much rather see Contador being a bit underhand with regard to Andy, than that curious, weird man love fest we witnessed as they track standed their way through the pyrenees gazing into each others eyes

As to the last part regarding you know who....the simeoni chase down had nothing to do with anyone taking advantage of another rider's misfortune...so not really relevant tbh...as for Ullrich waiting, well that was always debated, it was actually Hamilton who went up the road and got him to slow down...Ullrich said he hadn't "noticed" Armstrong fall before then

Armstrong definitely would if he had to gain back time to be safe, Ullrich probably not, but I wasn't talking about him.

TDF 01 - Like I said, Ullrich was no threat to him. Armstrong was by far the strongest rider in that Tour.

TDF 03 - Your point? I never once mentioned Ullrich. I was clearly ONLY talking about Armstrong.

3 seconds worth of visual evidence.

Yes that totaly trumps the stage results:rolleyes:

7. CONTADOR VELASCO Alberto AST 02'50"
8. SANCHEZ GONZALEZ Samuel EUS 02'50"
9. MENCHOV Denis RAB 02'50"

Well point is he went on the attack. He could had just followed the pace of the rest instead of attacking.. but hey my opinion lol :D

attacking when someone's on a pee break is one thing...even possibly when someone falls....but attacking when someone doesn't know how to change up when trying to attack and so slips a chain is frankly, in my opinion, fair game.

If Andy needs stabilisers I don't think we should really be blaming contador....and whats the issue anyway?...Andy "won" that year anyway;)

At least he'll have one TDF victory to savour now...he should enjoy it...aint gonna happen again:p

The stage results don't prove anything as it finished on a descent and Samu is a brilliant descender and Menchov could have somehow hung on for dear life.
More like the fact that they were together over the climb shows contador didn't go turbo but why would Contador not go turbo if he knew he had "dropped" Schleck?

Wow look at 2:29 ridiculous statement, think thats been changed by now..

Ullrich also sold a stage victory to Virenque. He's a good guy, IMO, but not a winner.

Yea haha

"Moments after winning the final time trial and securing his sixth Tour win, Armstrong ran into longtime rival Jan Ullrich at the medical control tent. The American reached out to shake hands but was surprised as Ullrich smiled and pulled him into a bear hug, saying, 'Awwwww, come on.'

'Can you believe that?' Armstrong said later in disbelief. 'He hugged me.'

Cool dude :D

He would? How did you work that out?

Well Schleck fans say that he would have won but forget that 39 -39 is 0.

Contador at least we can say might have tried something on le tourmalet if he wasn't already in le lead.

we can only guess about that. difficult to imagine the consequence of the attack on bale in case it could have been really efficient.

the attack wouldn't have been efficient, it was too close from the top of the mountain and there was too much descent/flat afterwards for andy to solo his way to finish, for some reason the group of contador, samu and menchov put time into the sole chaser schleck on the descent, same would have happened if the roles were reversed and schleck was the one escaping. and i am not even considering the very likely fact that andy would have failed to drop contador anyway

andy is a pretty good descender. the fact that he was losing 18at the top of bale and lost 30 sec at the finish line, given he rode all the way down himself whereas those 3 changed each other plus they got some help from the riders from breakaway in the end - speaks for itself. everything depends if he could have dropped them or not. obviously 2-3km was enough to gain 20-25sec theoretically.

From all that I've seen and heard of Ullrich, he's just a nice guy. That's why I have a soft spot for him. I don't recall him ever having a bad word for anyone regardless of the circumstances.
