I used to like the Schlecks until this season. They've really turned me off this past couple of months. I wonder what the rest of the peleton thinks of them. Do other riders want to be their team-mates?

Funny thing is that Nicki Sørensen recently said that he would like to ride for Andy again. Funny as he will be working for Contador (unless he changes team)

Nicki is a nice man, that never says anything that will offend anyone.

The only thing I am certain of is, that he will never leave Riis' team.

He have contract till the end of 2013 so it wont happen in the nearest future anyway ;)

Well his statement about wanting to ride for Andy again followed a statement that he isnt "married to Riis". But he does have contract through 2013 and he has also said that Contador is a great captain that he likes to work for. I reckon he just has build a good friendship with the Schleck after so many years together with them

For now I think we should be very careful with this rumour and not make too much out of it. Remember that only two weeks ago they were going to trade places with Contador again? And of course they are negotiating with Astana. And Katusha. All while saying they will honour their contract. So right now as far as I am concerned it's nothing but someone not knowing what to write about and making something up.

That being said if it were to be true it would be a good thing both for the Schlecks and German cycling. It would effectively mean the end of RSNT, that much is certain. Unless Becca is really willing to stake his €15 million only on Jungels. It might pay off eventually but it will certainly take a while.

That being said I am strugling to see what Trek's role in this is. AFAIK Becca and the Trek CEO were the driving force behind the merger. This would mean they are officially giving up on Becca and more importantly on Bruyneel and subsequently Armstrong, with whom they've been for a long time. In the light of current events it seems like the reasonable thing to do. Still I would be surprised.

That being said I agree that it is getting to be beyond farcical. Yet another most exciting team, yet another band of brothers? But people forget quickly and in any case it can not get worse than it is now. Still they should move to an existing team, preferingly Argos. I'm sure any team will let them bring along Monfort, Andersen and two or three others anyways

Argos, really? If they would only stick to 10 percent of their principles, Argos wouldn't even invite Anderson and Fränk for the interview...

I don't usually have much sympathy for the Schlecks, but I'm just not sure exactly how much choice they had about getting into bed with Bruyneel. I can perfectly understand why a rider would have wanted to leave his team during the (relatively) rosy times of 2 years ago; jumping the sinking ship that is his current outfit seems like just common sense. In a sense what seemed like a dream opportunity offered by Becca 2 years ago (and remember these are two guys paid to ride bikes, not to think) has turned incredibly sour on them.

Well, yeah, we'd have to assume Johan would be left out.

But are there any clues or rumors who the DS would be?

Well I hear Manolo Saiz is available :p

Schlecks should just DS themselves, we haven't had a rider directed team in a long time. I'll have to strengthen my core if they do, because I will be LMAO! :D

I reallly like the idea of the Schlecks to join forces with a German sponsor. This would mean a lot to professional cycling in Germany which is still in a difficult situation, even with NetApp on the rise. They would need to sign a couple of German riders (Martin, Kittel being the most obvious choices, but also guys like Gerdemann) as well, but that should not be the problem: A sponsor who could afford the Schlecks should have a pretty big budget.

Anyway, I do not see this to happen. Not enough information yet.

The hot rumor today here in Deutschland is that Jan Ullrich will be DS with Mercedes Benz and Nutella as the main sponsors.
Isn´t Ullrich still under suspension? I am pretty sure he is not allowed to DS under those circumstances. Sounds like someones fantasy to me.

You'd be surprised how flexible the term "principles" can be, just ask Vaughters ...

The schlecks were the man driver behind setting up their 'own' team, just a pity they ruined Saxo Bank by stealing all their riders.

The Schlecks then thought they knew better than all the DS' and had 'made it' so they sat for a year at leopard smiling at each other like a pair of 12 year olds. They ruined Leopard as they set the tone for the whole team which then produced; nothing.

After all the Schlecks good work they were then forced to merge with another ruined team and the Sclecks dont like being told what to do so they have now sat there for best part of the year doing nothing.

Now they may move on to a new team take all the riders from RSNT and I wonder what will happen. Kim Anderson who did great for Leopard will no doubt do great again, but hey the Schlecks can spend the year looking into each others eyes.

SO that will be 4 teams in as many years that they have been a major player in the ruination of. I dont have any sympathy for the Schlecks.

Isn't there a rule that says someone who has served a suspension can never be a DS or something like that?
I dunno about "never" but certainly it is currently out of the question. Let me just reiterate. According to this website (ie cyclingnews.com) "The German is currently ‘serving’ a two year suspension for his involvement in Operacion Puerto while he has no intension(sic) of returning to the sport." So the chances of him DSing at the moment are nil. I should also add that they seem pretty unlikely in the near future given the kind of things he says. Sounds like this rumour was started by a halfwit and promulgated by the clueless. Pretty much standard fare for the intermenets.

BTW cyclingnews I'm ready to step up to the job of spell checker as obviously there's a vacancy at the moment.
