For Yates or for the truth? Could be a genuine move by Brailsford or a smoke screen.

I'm inclined to believe it's genuine, but there's a niggling doubt in the back of my mind.

Yates answer to Brailsford will be key as it doesn't make much sense that he had no idea what was going on. At best, he took a blind eye to it, but had to have known something was going on.

Who took a blind eye? Yates to the doping on USPS and Motorola. Never Armstrong was open about it with everyone on the team. Swart talks about Armstrong getting mad at the team dinner after getting dropped at a classic and saying they need to get whatever stuff those other teams are on!

Brailsford knows about it too. He was there when Millar was busted in Nice, He was having coffee with Millar when the Police arrived. Brailsford is a liar.

Does brailsford not know how to use google - plenty of red flags out there in the public domain long before USADA evidence came out - which rather suggests the diligence wasn't very diligent & many a blind eye was turned...

Brailford " Shane , did you ever dope?".... Shane.. " No boss"

Brailford " You never put a needle in ya bum at a criterium in 88 and passed the needle to another rider who then used it to? "

Shane " No Boss"

Brailord " And you never used your then managers urine in a drinks can to pour into the sample jar in a big race in Ireland? "... Shane.. " No Boss"

Brailford. " Thanks Shane..knew I could depend on ya "

This is called " Due diligence"...the Braiford way . :D

It's kind of silly. The only way it would make any sense is if there was some sort of incentive offered for cooperation.

"Confess, so we can fire you" is obviously not going to get takers, unless maybe someone's convinced they're going down anyway. It's probably not intended to get any takers.

Well, Raul Alcala was also there in the early days. Beat Lance at Tour du Pont 1993 and was picked up by Motorola the next year to be Lance's team mate. Had a return to cycling in 2008 and at age 46 won the Mexican time trial championships in 2010. Hmm...

Nice picture of the various 1994 Motorola blood brothers here. From Brian Smith's website who's also recently come out to tell his story, and is running a fantastic cycling youth fund.

Otherwise spot on. Same as the due diligence after Landis' allegations about barry.

I don't understand the connection, or what you're implying. Because he was on the same team he was 'mentored' by Yates, despite being his senior? And because he makes comments about being anti-doping, he supports doping? Bauer has a pretty irrefutable reputation for being clean.

Edit: okay, my memory and opinion of bauer are largely based off this thread.

I guess 'irrefutable' might be too strong, but still, I'd give Bauer the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks for the link to a previous thread and Beaushrimp's personal testimony. Agree the "mentoring" is obviously not correct, and highly likely he has been clean and chosen a different path than many others.

I think anyone in he Motorola team 1994 must be questioned about whether they did it or knew of it happening. It's Bauer's superlative anti-doping comments on UCI that I don't get. Other than that these must be related to attracting new sponsors perhaps, or securing Spidertech. I just don't buy that in August 2012 from a guy who has been on the inside of cycling for so long.

A reminder also on what Brailsford stated his "zero tolerance policy on doping" to be:

"We set out with a zero tolerance policy, so we said that anyone who has had a doping conviction from the past or proved to have been involved in doping hasn't got a place on Team Sky. That is our policy."

Looking the other way and not getting out or reporting until this day so far seems good enough. And hoping the "proof" is not forthcoming.

There seems to be some confusion about Sean Yates and testing positive.

From what I can gather from various sources, Sean Yates has only ever tested positive once at the Tour of Belgium in 1989. There are two reasons why some seem to think he tested positive twice.

1. The Tour of Belgium took place in August 1989 but the positive only came to light in October 1989. These were not two separate positives, but the same positive.

2. The first Stage 1a of the 1989 Tour of Belgium from Geel to Verviers was also called the Torhout-Werchter classic. It was after this that Yates produced the positive test. They were not two separate races, but the same race.

I'm open to correction, but I'm fairly sure this is accurate.

It has also been said that Yates's A sample was positive but his B sample was negative.

Newspaper reports at the time of Yates's positive also suggest that both samples tested positive.

"There in two tests, the samples were found positive for the banned substance nortestosterone"

Point being? Lance never tested positive either...
