You don't know that.
You choose to believe there is only one possible scenario, when, in fact, there are two.
You could be right, but you could also be wrong.
He might have decided to walk through the door, in defence of his personal Omerta.

Since it looks "convenient", it doesn't do Sky any favours, only Yates.

Yates acknowledges there will be rumours surrounding his exit from Team Sky but insists he is exiting the sport for personal reasons.

In a statement released to the Press Association, the 52-year-old said: "The last three years with Team Sky have been fantastic and a highlight of my long career in cycling.

"I'm proud to have been involved with the team at such an incredible time for the sport. I have suffered with my health in recent years and have spent a lot of time away from my home so I feel the time is right to focus on myself and my family.

"I realise the timing of my retirement will lead to speculation given what is currently going on in the sport but I can walk away with my head held high knowing I have done nothing wrong."

Yates demonstrates everything that is wrong with cycling and just how powerful omerta is. Even now, even after everything he is still denying it all.

He really is a ****stain on the sport and his refusal to 'fess up really does cast a shadow over Sky and their recent success.

Why did they ever hire him? He tested positive in 1989 didn't he? I mean De Jongh, Julich, Barry and Rogers never tested positive... so I see why an no dope policy would hire them but Yates? I never followed this guy his past that much but don't understand this story.

Because an important part of a doping program in logistics. USPS/Disco had it down to a tee. Yates provided that info and understanding.

No wonder pinocchio was picked as cycling's latest mascot.

These people dont love the sport. They are bleeding it into oblivion.

That's a fair point.

However, See post number 328.
As previously said: in defence of his personal Omerta.
No confession on his agenda.

Sky know it, can't prove it, therefore compromise.

Whichever reason, it's not an outcome that paints Sky in the best light.
Far from it.

Whether he did dope or not I am sure will be revealed when LA writes his book, which without a doubt he will do, because to Armstrong it seems to me that his friends to him are more associates than friends.

If Sky were truly a clean team they would not be shredding those with a history. They could say we were aware of their history but that is the past, everyone who walked through the Sky door know we are about doing it the clean way so we have nothing to worry about and more importantly nothing to hide.

This is throwing dirt off the bus in the hope that is appeases the media enough to get Sky back viewed as a clean team. But it is doomed to failure.

Nothing is gonna take away from the fact that the year they had a doping doctor on the team they destroyed the opposition in all their target races.

I think the meeting went something like this:

DB "So Sean, I'm here to ask some questions in regards to any past doping you may have been involved in"

SY: "Cut the crap Dave. You know what went on. But forget about what I was doing 20 years ago we've got the boys on a program now! I'm not a scapegoat for that sh!t! You know about it and you authorised it"

DB: "Sean this has come from the top. You need to tell me about any past indiscretions you may have been involved in. Any mention of current doping would cause for you to lose your job and be labelled as bitter"

SY:"This is bullsh1t Dave and you know it. I could bust this wide open and you're forcing me out the door? - What's in it for me?"

DB: "Rupert has approved a package that I think you'll be satisfied with but it will require an NDA to be signed"

SY: "This is sh!t. But I'll sign. I don't need this. All I ask is that I can say retired and I'm not dropping Lance in it."

I don't disagree with much of this.
I thought this process a bad idea to begin with and Yates departure has highlighted a major flaw.
Imo, Garmin are ahead of the field in this respect.

Well, disappointment aside - I'm sure we're all glad that Team Sky is a little cleaner today than it was yesterday.

One small move in the right direction for cycling.
