Ok here's a question not anti-Armstrong or trying to pick a fight with a fanboy.... Just say Armstrong loses a few minutes on 1 stage over the weekend/next tuesday anyone see him abandoning or will he race 'til the end and try and win a stage?

Just wait until Team radioshack hits the high mountains. Lance will have Levi, Kloden, Jani, Horner, Popo with him, while contador and schleck will have no one.

Is there any way I can get whatever you're having in pill form? I hate needles. (That's why I never went pro.)

I don't know. Position in peloton, lead up to the mountain, position within the selection. It's very subtle but highly likely when there are converging interests.

Precisely.

Yes, but my point is that their interests will diverge sooner rather than later.
Fair enough. But only once it is evident they cannot put Contador away. Frankly, he is in an awkward position in spite of a successful run on the cobbles.

BMC/SAXO/SHACK tag team Vs. ASTANA, whatya think? I saw Vino hiding in the bunch today.

Saxo Bank has more reason to work with Astana than Radio Shack or BMC. Andy needs minutes in the mountains to protect against his inevitable losses in the TT.

Yeah. That's why I decided against going pro too. ;)

Well...that and the fact that the only race I would ever win is to the front of the buffet line. But I tell myself it's the needles.

I hope he goes out a like a champion should. Drop big minutes in the first set of mountains. Show some class and respect the younger riders. Then take a mountain stage solo in the final set of mountains.

I don't think he quits unless he breaks a bone.

The Schleck bros. and Jens! are pals with Lance. I see them working together against the Spaniards andASTANA/ Alberto GRR! As far as Andy and Lance, may the best man win! Cadel has to be tired after the Giro but he can win stages and maybe make top 5. Plus he needs all the team help he can get even it is with rival teams.

That sort of thing never happens. If a team can't beat Contador on their own, they'll go for 2nd, and thus be forced to attack and chase the other teams in that unholy alliance of yours.

It's all talk for the press, it never materalizes on the road.
Did you see Astana work with Columbia to try and put smiling george in yellow last year. For some reason Garmin chased Big George and Lance was ****ed. Columbia and Astana were allied last year.

What planet do you live on? Do they serve ice cream for lunch and dinner there? Do you sleep on marshmellows?

The Schleck bros are also pals with Contador. None of it matters. It's the Tour. Saxo will not work with the Retirement Shack unless somehow there's a break where, say, Andy and Lance can work together to get time on AC. But since Contador is stronger than either of them, I don't foresee that happening.

And yeah, Cadel has really looked exhausted in this Tour. That's why he's so far down in the overall right now.

So your contention is that Andy would put his friendship with Lance above his interest in the race???? I guess it's possible, but it might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard if it occurs (and the sweetest deal that Lance could possibly extract).

Yes Cadel looks great. We will see how he performs during week 3. He looked great in the beginning of the Giro this year sans team! Look what happened Liquigas team smoked him. Do you think cycling or life is fair? If you do PM me and fill me in on your nirvana.

The Tour and the Giro are very different races. Between now and the Pyrenees we've got more than a week and a half of pretty much nothing. Cadel's team in this race will be more than enough to get him to the few important days at the end. Not that the slim advantage he has will be enough to get him ahead of Contador--but I'd be surprised if it wasn't enough to keep him on the podium.

How? Conti will have him for breakfast in the tt so his team need to go it alone as shack are way behind now and are a non factor in the mountains for gc honours so they won't be much help. shack need to attack but JB will get the team to just pace LA like the god ole' days.

Flicker, do you really watch cycling? Seriously. If you keep saying so much stupid stuff you're going to have to start paying Polish royalties.

According to Bill Stricklands book, Lance did not sleep that night as they chased a bit. AC actually wanted them to chase it down and JB supposedly originally said no. HTC all ripped off there yellow bands at the finish.

Astana will work with Saxo until Evans and a few others lose some time. It's not what the smart DS would do.

you have a way of stretching simple things into wild projections and conclusions.
You're right, I'm terribly sorry to have used the prologue to project anything about anyones podium chances, clearly thatis a cardinal sin that no proper poster would ever commit.
python said:
the prologue with its flatness and long straight runs is the perfect course for watts over watts per kilo.

if 'watts per kilo' do very well in the race, they are making a huge statement about the podium in paris.
Eh..
python said:
that's wishful thinking.
No wishfull thinking is projecting an outcome you want simply because you want it. It's not projecting an outcome, or in this case considering an outcome (I consider LA's podium chances to be just shy of 40%) to which you're indifferent.

TT is about CdA/power and climbing is about w/kg. Contador might have lower CdA than Armstrong so he doesn't have to put out as many watts as Armstrong to go as fast in the TT.

If they both have similar CdA, then AC will crush everyone in the mountains and have this Tour in the pocket. We will find that out on Sunday.

exactly. pretty much a known fact. and when you analyze the prologue results you'll see it was won by specialists. a climber like contador doing as well as he did should be feared by his competitors.

but watch out cerberus will twist and distort even this basic element to fit his crackpot theory that armstrong's 4th in the prologue indicates future climbing success. he will even try to arrange your quotes from the posts week apart so that it looks he won an argument on the rather idiotic assumption because he cant take the public embarrassment.
