Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong

Don't be an idiot. Her remarks mean absolutely nothing.

I don't doubt that he did train hard. I'm sure nobody doubts that. He was as fit as he could be. At the top of his potential. It took dedication.

And then to "win" 7 tours, it took a top notch pharmaceutical and blood management program on top of that.

It's what she didn't say that is interesting. Things like: "I couldn't perjure myself so I had to say...."

Lance and company celebrate as Sheryl Crow shoots her credibility dead with that proclamation. Whatever Crow may have told the USADA or anybody else is now easily defended as the rantings of a lunatic who thinks cell phones not only cause cancer, but caused her cancer.

Actually, she's no nut. There are plenty of studies showing connections between excessive cell phone use and cancer. Before you ridicule, do a little research:

Yes, do some research and see that Mercola is a pseudo-scientific natural medicine nutjob with credibility problems for practitioners of sciencee-based medicine:

http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org...etely-ignore-joseph-mercola-and-natural-news/

"Mercola.com is a horrible chimera of tabloid journalism, late-night infomercials, and amateur pre-scientific medicine, and is the primary web presence of Joseph Mercola. Unfortunately, it is also one of the more popular alternative medicine sites on the web and as such is uncommonly efficient at spreading misinformation."

Perhaps a good overview on the discussion of the relationship between cell phone usage and cancer can be found here:

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/cellphones

Well there is no established link between cell phone usage and cancer, there is certainly evidence of widespread social concern and scientific research. It may indeed be the case that cell phone usage that contribute to an increase in cancer morbidity. Still the social concern is there, and it is widespread. And cancer researchers have also shown concern.

More importantly, when a person is diagnosed with cancer a very normal reaction is to look for the cause of the cancer. People want to know, not just that they are sick, but why? What caused it? What did I do? What did I do wrong to suffer this terrible affliction? Do I have myself to blame?

This is a very normal, natural response of a patient when a doctor tells him/her she has cancer. Not to respond this way would appear more "lunatic" than responding so.

I think we should be generous and accommodating with victims of cancer with regard to their disease, be it Sheryl Crow, Lance Armstrong, or anyone else. Disease is perhaps our one common enemy.

You're masterful at this, but I'd caution that the bait is a bit too obvious in some posts.

Aw, come on guys.:p

I was going through this thread, laughing so hard at the Milli Vanilli jokes...then you had to turn it into a serious debate on cell phones. Talk about highs then lows.:)

I agree with the post about a scorned woman....Lance dumped her right before (during?) she announced she had brain cancer....knowing how hard it is to deal with that type of sickness, I'm willing to bet Crow's heart is not so forgiving.

Oh gee, you are so smart.

Ok, difficult question for a smart boy. Ready? How is "oops" spelled?

An individual was recently spotted at a Kareoke contest claiming "My name is Fabrice Morvan and yes, I am a Grammy winner".

Well, when it comes to cell phones, all I can say is: baby, don't forget my number...

They can't even definitely link smoking to lung cancer, forget about cell phones.

My aunt lived her whole life healthily and never first-hand or second-hand smoked, never even touched a drop of alcohol. Still she died of lung cancer.

The fact is, NO ONE knows what exactly cause cancer. If you don't know what cause cancer, how can you fight it? Livestrong and other cancer research organizations are just scams.

To add this; cancer is a disease of our external environment. That much we know. Two interesting school of thought add weight to food, air and contamination at potential causes. The second is cleanliness. Studies in the former soviet countries showed extremely low rates of cancer compared to western nations . One of the reason touted is shared environments. Children in Eastern European countries grew up in state care centers whereby they would be in contact with many other children. The same of their schools and workplaces. The theory is that being in contact with several other people at young ages the body builds is immune system and defense against germs and diseases. Western societies are obsessed with cleanliness and cleaning bodies, hands and skin with cleaning agents which suggests we’re washing away a body’s ability to heal itself.

Would that include the Chernobyl children? Oh yeah, and link?

That would be external containimation. Did you not read the post?

http://pacificcancer.org/Resources/Cancer/Breast/Guidel_breast_bj_selected_topics.pdf

This is a fascinating read on breast cancer rates around the world. If you compare North America to Eastern Europe to say Northern Europe you can correlate that cancer is a disease of western societies.

There are several research papers on the topic. It's a theory for the reasoning but the data is rather compelling.

It does stir up emotion. Western counties like to tout there medicine and health practices as the best in the world whereas prevention from such diseases should be viewed as the goal.

Western food is another area of major concern.

Surprising to many but the quality of food in Eastern European countries is still far superior that to western countries.

In countries where food production has reach mass production and processed staged is of less quality than countries whereby locally produced food is still the norm.

This is utter nonsense. There are many studies showing a direct link between smoking and cancer.

No oncologist or reasonable person asserts that the only cause of lung cancer is smoking, just as falling off of bridges is not the only cause of death. You can fall off a bridge and survive. And you can die of other causes than falling off a bridge. Still falling off of bridges is one cause of death and smoking is one cause of lung cancer.

The fact is no one knows the cause of many many diseases. That does not mean we do not know many of the contributing factors or risks for those diseases. It also does not mean that research has not helped hundreds of millions of people with such diseases.

I agree that LiveStrong should not be involved with cancer. But that does not mean that cancer is not a serious public health concern that needs serious research. And keep in mind that a great deal has been accomplished in cancer prevention and therapy through research.

This is pure nonsense. Thank goodness you have nothing to do with the NCI or public health.

You obviously have no understanding of the relationship between immunogenicity and cancer. And you surely have never been to Asia.

In any event, this kind of disinformation only makes The Clinic's arguments against the LAF look ridiculous. And this is not a good thing.
