Should You Wear Team Kits?

i was looking for another thread on this thread and saw this one buried 6 pages down and thought to myself " how long has it been since brodeal has called some1 a fred?!!!!!!! this madness can't continue!!!" so i bumped it

I saw somebody wearing a GreenEDGE jersey yesterday.

They're starting to appear here as well. It seems that every 2nd LBS is selling it

Santini sold out of some lines of GE kit at the TdU Tour Village, expect to see a lot of Green and Gold on Aussie roads this winter. Probably will be more popular here than BMC and US Postal combined.

Saw something funny the other afternoon at my LBS. A customer was in the store with his son (about 11-12 years old) looking at junior kits. Both Dad and the shop assistant pointed him towards the GreenEdge and other team kits, with Dad offering to buy a new GE jersey and bibs. The son's response was classic:

"Nah, don't like any of the team kits this year, they're all cr@p! Can I get one of those Pearl Izumi jerseys instead?"

I completely lost it, nearly had to walk out of the shop laughing

I saw his and hers Cadel-Tour BMC SLR limited editions on the river loop on the w'end. Thats $40k of bikes in the garage!!

And yes, also saw the first GE kit on the road.

Lol, yeah you can have a good old chuckle riding the river loop of a saturday/sunday morning! I must admit though - whatever gets you into the sport has to be a good thing.

If it's "your club" as in you being a club member, wear the club jersey. That's just how it's done, and most clubs demand that anyway.
Otherwise, I would ask the guys you're going to ride with, and not some dudes on the internet. After all, they're the ones who'll have to accept it.

I was no seeking permission, i was asking for opinions? I do wear my Club jersey, but seeing as i go out three times a week with the club, it costs alot to wash it every other day.

So i'll rephase the question would you guys grumble and talk behind that persons back if someone wore one of these jerseys?

I can't speak for anybody else, but I wouldn't and I'm not bothered by the kit somebody wears. I mean a couple of weeks ago one dude turned up wearing a Belorussian RR jersey but he still dropped everybody (he's about 3 years younger than me).

Yes, we'd (blokes I ride with) poke fun at the rider behind their back but we'd also eventually say it to their face because most likely we'd be wearing a pro kit as well or some of us would. Then again, if the new guy wearing the pro kit was a bit stuck up and not enjoy some good ribbing at what they're wearing then it would just get worse.

Wearing the club jersey can be worse if the club is not well liked or there's one guy who's riding like an a$$.

I like the idea of wearing team jerseys. I am a proud owner of the GE top ( bought at the TDU $90 ) and went up Wilunga in it ( getting cheered by heaps of Aussies )

Fair enough.
Personally, I don't really care what people wear. Except if it's a champion's jersey. And even if I were dissatisfied, I'm not the person to talk behind others' back.

i really like the pro kits and it incidently matches my club bib shorts quite well so as long as people don't mind the occasional mismatch of kits, i shall continue to wear my HTC jersey with pride. (more so now they are gone)

When I'm riding with my cycling club I always wear the club jersey but while solo training or on informal group rides I see nothing wrong with wearing pro team kit.

I've had some of my jerseys for 25 years or more and of course the teams they represent are long gone now. However, as a celebration of Australia's first UCI Pro Tour team, I'm proud to wear my new GreenEdge kit too.

As I actually received the kit as part of a GreenEdge membership package, I reckon I'm entitled to wear the stuff out on the bike whatever anyone else thinks ;-)

Thousands of cyclists have taken up GreenEdge membership because they want to support this new team and help to promote Aussie cycling internationally. The kit comes as part of the package so naturally people are going to wear it on the bike, not just hang it up in the shed.

Who cares what tossers think. I like wearing my 2011 HTC kit (well not so much the bib shorts, the Nalini padding sucks b@lls) when I'm riding. The jersey is white, and when I'm spending 4 or 5 hours riding in bright sunny 35c+ temps, I appreciate having a white jersey.

If some w@nker is going to roll their eyes at me when I'm out riding because of what I'm wearing, I hope they fall off their bike.

As if cyclists in Australia don't have enough to contend with, we don't need to heap shyte on each other because of what we wear. Don't you know, male fashionistas are utterly g'ay? Peter Morrissey...anyone called Morrissey for that matter.

I personally don't pro kits because I have plenty of club kits that I almost always wear. Plus, when I see someone wearing a pro kit, particularly a RadioShack one, I tend to be cautious around them because they have a tendency to be pretty poor riders.

I'm embarrassed to admit I have a Discovery Channel jersey that I usually wear when I'm cycling, but I got it as a gift when I was just starting to get into cycling 6 years ago. There aren't really all that many clubs around where I live, so I don't get that luxury. I really want an old kit like a Mapei one or ONCE of if I were to get a current team one it would most likely be Lampre, Rabo, or Eus since there design has stayed pretty much the same and looks awesome. The biggest barrier I have is cost; I'm already completely broke from paying tuition (gotta love being in college) and if I do get money, it goes toward Nordic ski gear.

So thats my stance.

all this talk of pro kits , i am more worried about this trend by the new cyclists to wear black shirts , ok it may be slimming but on road it a stupid idea.

At the inquest into the death of a top international road cyclist in the UK a few years back the judge was quite critical on the riders decision to use a stylish black reflective top from a major Italian brand.

I can almost agree. I'd vote for the joy of riding in suitably-comfortable gear that is eye-blindingly visible is all that matters!
