Does anybody know if Henao is doing the Giro or the Tour?

We already saw how Movistar changed Quintana's schedule based on his performances, so maybe Sky is thinking something similar.

They won't because they have pure leaders for both Giro and the Tour (Wiggo & Froome). Henao will ride Giro as a domestique and then maybe Vuelta as a leader.

Not decided yet, I read that Brailsford wants Uran at the Giro and if Wiggins is not in the shape to win the Tour after the Giro, Henao will go to the Tour.

If Sky is planning to have him lead the Vuelta, it makes more sense for him to do Giro + Vuelta instead of Tour + Vuelta...

Well I don't think he was originally going to the Ardennes, but I think he was down for the Tour all along.

He is doing very good till now.Should have been 2nd without time loss in stage 3 due to a crash and Pescara stage where he wait for Wiggins. If Wiggins will return to 2012 form in 2nd and 3rd week I think Henao can remain in his position. Also I hop will give him freedom in one of the MO stages and win one.

He probably gained back almost as much as he lost in time trial because he caught his minute man and then they pushed each other on.

I think he should leave if Sky don't give him a tilt at the Vuelta, he is clearly strong enough to win a Grand Tour and his time trialling is better than Uran I think (Perhaps slightly assisted in his last TT though).

Perhaps Katusha ? Saxo-Tinkoff maybe?

He has an outside chance to win, and a real chance to podium the Giro. His chances, inexplicably, were dwarfed by Sky on stage 7. IMO he would've been the only threat to Nibali.

You might be right. He'd be only 18 seconds behind Nibali without the crash on stage 3 and without having to babysit Wiggins on stage 7. I have a feeling that he has slightly better recovery than Nibali on consecutive mountain stages and that would have proven vital on stage 20 in particular. As it stands, 2:11 down against an excellent Nibali is just too much.

Henao still needs to learn a bit. But as usual he managed his losses.

But what can we expect, it takes time to get a good grasp at these races.

He will be glad and happy to work for Rigo.

What do people make of Henao's time loss thus far in the Giro? I Haven't been able to watch the stages in depth but it seems like he is performing below expectations. Has he given any explanation for this, or he is he just out of form?

He's probably sick. Also he is not in top form.He was incredible good already in February.
Also when he is a domestique he doesn't perfom very well.Remember last year Vuelta or this year Tirreno.

Yes, he's been sick ( as half of the Sky camp have been ).

I think he's recovering now and hopefully will get better each day.

However it has to be very difficult to be competitive while being sick + add this horrible weather.

Sick probably or peaked at the wrong time. To me he is sick. He is better than this. Actually I think he is better than Uran IMHO. He is trying to help his friend but he just don't have the strength.

I haven't seen any source that confirms he's been sick. In fact the only thing I've read from the Sky camp said that he simply had a bad day on stage 10. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe he went too deep in the time trial and hasn't recovered from it.

Shame but it seems that the Wiggins derailment of a season is going to affect Henao's Vuelta ambitions:

"I'll be riding with ambition and desire. We'll see if Wiggins rides, I think he will after missing the Tour. If that's the case, I'll be giving it 100% to get ready and be prepared to help Wiggins be at his best."

Also confirms the likelihood of being at sky for next couple of years:

"I feel that I'll have the opportunity to continue to grow. I learned a lot in these two years but there's still much more left to learn. Someday I hope to be a team leader to fight for a podium or the in a Grand Tour."

CN

Edit: Any chance of changing the thread title to the more common "Sergio Henao discussion thread"

I'm a big fan of Henao. Sky would do well to keep him. On the flip side if he moved he might get more autonomy which can only be a good thing.
