He has had his opportunities in the past and has wasted them. Besides he has had bad luck also.
The only races he consistently gets to ride for his own are Itzulia and Fleche Wallone. He finished 2nd in Itzulia twice, the latter he podiumed once and he was supposed to win it this year, but some biological passport nonsense got in the way. In other races, there's always another top dog in his way. Whether it be Uran, Wiggins, Froome, Thomas...

La Vuelta a España.
When?

2012: Froome
2013: I'll give you this one, though it was more of a co-leadership with Uran. In fact, Uran took over as the leader after stage 2.
2014: DNS
2015: Froome, then Nieve
Well I think he got his chance last year a little as well, it just so happened that his GC didn't work out due to a crash or something, and he wasn't on such great form anyway I think. Initially, there was Froome, Nieve, Henao and Roche who all tried to maintain a position on GC, but in the end only Nieve actually succeeded.

He has had some chances and hasn' t taken advantage of them. It's hard to blame Sky for not getting 100% behind him at a GT when he can't even win Pais Vasco, which seems almost designed for him.

Also, there really is no excuse for him sucking so badly in TTs. If Quintana can get better, he can too. He has lost a few one week races chiefly because he is so bad on a GT bike.

He lost this year's Itzulia because on the other end was Contador, one of best hilly time-trialers around. A 3rd place in a TT for me isn't the same as "sucking so badly".

Yep, 28 years old with 5 professional wins and only two of which are Worldtour level. His level certainly seems like a dom as he is being used in the Dauphine with a few smaller races he gets to lead himself.

Yeah, he often does disappoint and usually loses the race in the TT, like Paid Vasco this and last year, Tour of Poland last year, and maybe two years before as well, although he wasn't really in contention for the victory then. Also, if he'd done better in the shocking Paris Nice prologuw, he might have been allowed to go for his own chances.

That's a new one! Didn't know that term, "supposed to win" :p

Oh, I thought the ones you linked to showed bad performances. If not, then why do you bring up the Pais Vasco '13 and '15 ITT's? He lost the race because of these. To Rodriguez and Quintana.

Anyway, I never said that he sucks at ITT's and I don't think that he does, but he's just not good at them.

So because he lost the GC, it suddenly is a bad TT? Of course not. He lost Itzulia in the TT this year and it was still a heck of a performance.

When you lose the GC to Rodriguez and Quintana in an ITT, I'd say it's a bad performance, yes.
