Can't see it myself as I don't think he's ready to ride the Giro. Sky would be taking two Italians in Cioni and Possoni.

Forgot about Possoni. Then maybe even three italians. Maybe he wont, but I do know Sky are making massive efforts to woo the Italian fans. Wouldnt surprise me to see all the Italian riders race.

The official site is likely to be in two different languages in time for the Giro. They dont put that much effort it unless they are serious.

As for the Giro I'm not sure how many sprinter types or lead outs they would want to bring there. If I remember correctly there aren't more than 6 pure sprint stages so if you fill your team with too many sprint riders you will have half your team in the grupetto for most of the race. I would bring only a couple riders for the sprints and they should be riders who can get over a hump or two. Downing and Appolonio are the ones that come to mind and if you add Knees to help with sprints you'll have things covered fairly well.

Which is what my initial suggestions was, Downing and Appollonio to work together, get in other peoples trains, one lead out the other and see what they can grab. Suits Russ's style perfectly, and Davide has shown he has speed.

Like i say, the sky site isnt going bi-lingual for nowt.

No, far too complicated to put in place. And the way our pages are structured it would be even more of a pain in the ****. Google translate does a fine job. :D

I notice that the SKY italia logo has now come into line with the UK, Germany etc, so I guess there will be no need for a rebranding of kit/vehicles etc this year...

yeh, they actually changed them last summer, but by then the Italian races were all done with. But Sky were able to use the normal logo in Lombardia.

Never noticed that - though I seem to recall the weather/visibility was rather inclement...:)

Sky Italia do own 30% of the team so it does seem fair to cater for their language.

I dont think that follows. How many cycling teams websites cater to the languages of all of their sponsors? The leopard website doesnt even cater to the language of its registered country.

Team Sky is invited to both the Giro and the Tour of California.
The two Races are overlapping....
Which race will have the stronger Sky Team Roster?
I am tempted to say the Tour of California yikes

That depends on how you define stronger. The California roster will probably be better suited for success in California than the Giro team will be for sucess in the Giro but that's mostly because Sky have more riders that are suited for a one week race rather than a three week race.

I'm not sure however that if you just take the California team and drop it into the Giro that it would perform better there but that depends a lot on how the final teams will be.

Sky are a media business. Communication is their business. Their Italian business is putting up 30% of the money. Surely you would be more surprised if they didn't have dual language web sites?

But Team Sky are not Sky. They are just sponsored by them. Ultimately they are a British team, theres no reason why they have to. Like i say, the leopard site isnt even in its native language, the Radioshack site isnt available in Japanese (Nissan), etc.

I beleive they are doing it, yes to please the sponsor, but its pointless pleasing the sponsor if you then dont take a core italian squad to the giro.

Fwiw i think the giro squad will be

Lofkvist*
Cioni*
Possoni*
Norhaug
Froome*
Cummings*
Hayman* (possibly Gerrans)
Downing
Appollonio

* riders who rode in 2010

Revised thinking of Giro team-

Lovkvist
Cioni
Possoni
Nordhaug
Cjalstrom
Cummings
Hayman
Downing
Apollino

Tour-

Wiggins
Rogers
Uran
Gerrans
Thomas
Flecha
Henderson
Arversen
EBH

Vuelta

Lovkvist
Zandio
Flecha
Sutton
Swift
Stannard
Kennaugh
Hunt
Pauwels

Only change I might make there is the possibility of either Sutton, Hunt, or Swift being sent to the Tour of Britain. I think sky will be out to prove a point in their home tour following last seasons Fiasco. I also think Uran, if he is ok after the Tour will do the vuelta. depends on his fitness.

TOB team.

Wiggins
Henderson
Hayman
Downing
Thomas
Cummings

but possibly swift or cj being brought in if there is an injury/poor form.

Obviously this is the grand tour thread, so the ToB is a bit off topic. Unless its now the fifth grand tour.

other than that, your three squads are pretty much along my line of thinking.

Not that it really matters but Löfkvist didn't ride the Giro last year. Though he is already confirmed for this year so this is merely nitpicking.

Thats what happens when you type things from memory. I think i gave him a * for being expected to ride the giro last year.

Two things strike me. The first is that it looks a bit leaderless. Arvesen?

And what's going on with Augustyn? Talk about hero to zero.
