They've actually said the opposite about the Giro. They plan to go there without a GC rider and attack every day. Flat stages they'll obviously play the Cav card whenever possible.

They got ****ing Sergio Henao, what do they mean no gc rider?

I imagine they'd be delighted if he was challenging for GC, but aren't going to put unnecessary pressure on him. I guess the better way to word it would be they're not going there specifically to target GC. Who knows, his performances prior to the Giro could change everything.

What has he proven in GTs?

What had El Pistolero proven in gts before he won The Tour?

or Cunego before the Giro.

Or Froome before he was best in the Vuelta.

Saxo bank were to take Majka to the Giro as their GC rider.
He has even less on his palmares than Henao, a GC rider is a rider who has the ability and is given free reign by his team to go for GC.
The latter is the only problem with calling Henao a GC rider

Very true, you never know what riders can do if they are never given a chance. A top ten result is still pretty exciting I think. Especially if its in the Giro when there are attacks and a battle to be top 10.

froome is doing a reconnaisance of paris-nice,looks like he will be the top favourite there.
Great :D
Will be terrific if he wins or even podiums as sky would then be forced to truly consider giving him a tri-leadership role at the tour.

The best you can hope for from Henao at the Giro is a stage win.

And whats so bad about that, that is probably what he would want in his dreams and is better than a just top 10.
A stage win in your first GT is truly a sign of great potential.

Those are exceptions and you know it. Besides, Contador had already beaten Europe's best climbers in stage races before 2007. I had a bet on him to win the white jersey. But you would have to have been an idiot to bet money on him to win the yellow jersey.

How about VDB2, Gesink, Denis Menchov, Ivan Basso, Lance Armstrong, Frank Schleck, Samuel Sanchez, Cadel Evans, Pierre Rolland, Joaquim Rodriguez, Ryder Hesjedal, Chris Horner, Bradley Wiggins, Andreas Klöden, Vincenzo Nibali, Christian Vandevelde, Christophe Le Mével, Carlos Sastre, Bernhard Kohl, Miguel Indurain, etc

What did Froome do in his first GT?

Me neither. But I hope he turns out to be a new Szmyd with confidence and skills to lead a team and win races.

Niemiec is the new Szmyd.

Though I hope Majka doesnt become the news Szmyd as Szmyd often just brings back or holds back riders who attacked.

And how many of those guys did their first gt at 24. And how many of those guys were being touted as major talents when they did their first gt and not upcoming youngsters.

Rujano is a good comparison cos he comes into europe at 23 and does well in his first gt.

A much better comparison than 50 guys who did their first gt at 21 after just graduating from a youth team 6 months into their first pro contract, who had to work for a major gc leader and had no experience in climbing with a euro peleton (which Henao got in Utah and Colorado).

And how many GTs has Henao ridden? Because you seem to call him a GT rider. I see yet another over-hyped Columbian who can climb well, but sucks in everything else.

0, Isnt that the whole point of the discussion???

You were just listing guys who did poor in their debut gts, I was explaining why Henao might do well in his first gt and now you come up with "How many GTs has Henao ridden".

Where did I call him a GT rider?

And it seems to me you have not seen the Giro profile.

J Rodriguez came 5th last year with a cold. Its all about the mountains here. And a ttt which he shouldnt do so bad in (unless they sacrifice Henao to get some early momentum for Cav:p)

Sky doesn't care about the Giro (only Cav does) so that doesn't hurt, either.
Not true, Italy is extremely important for their sponsor. I mean the teamsky.com website is available on English and Italian for a reason.

The team in Mallorca was already training for leading out trains for Giro, with Appollonio as Cav last man for example. Giro is a very important race for Sky. They will target few stages for sure and if Henao and Siutsou ride they can definitely do a Top 10 between them.

Tbh Sky changed their attitude from 2010 and ride every race in hope they can win it. They showed it last year imo.
