Sky is an Embrrassment

Rumors are that Cavendish will be riding for Sky next year since High Road will lose HTC as a sponsor.

What sane team acquires a sprinter and GC rider on the same team when the structure and goal of such a team would have counter-productive goals in literally every single major race?

What will happen in the Tour de France when Sky shows up with a team that completely trashes itself so its GEICO Caveman can get some meaningless sprint stage wins and the stupid Green Lantern jersey while Wiggins' GC goal requires the entire team to save its energy on the flat stages in order to help the anorexic sissy when the road goes up?

Sky is turning out to be a real embarrassment to professional cycling and I'm about 5 minutes away from taking a redeye flight into Heathrow, kicking in the door of Sky's marketing director and telling him to fire David Brailsford.

You don't see that bald headed doper Riis looking for a sprinter to ride with Clentador in the Tour, do you? You never saw Bruyneel looking to acquire Robbie McEwen or Pettachi 10 years ago, did you?

By the way, everyone knows that Cavemen's best sprinting days are behind him and that if you want to completely ruin a sprinter's ability to win races, give him a huge contract so he can move to Monaco, get some 19 year old girlfriend, and start a coke habit. Say, wasn't Boonen suppose twin win the green jersey at le Tour by now?

What the **** do you base that one? Imo he's just approaching his peak. And sprinters can often be successful until very late in their career, Petacchi, Zabel and Cipollini have been winning races until their late 30s for example.

Also, don't forget that Cavendish is Britain's best bet for the Olympic road race, so getting him into the de-facto British national pro cycling team makes sense to maximise his chances for that.

Sky's biggest mistake was not to recruit their management staff from posters on this site. I don't know what you do in Real Life (tm) TERMINATOR, but you're obviously completely wasted.

You picked the week following Sky's biggest win to make this point?

Had they continued to put all their eggs in the Wiggins Tour de France basket they would be criticised for doing so.

Aye, we all have to learn sometime that cider and forumming don't mix.

"Hey, Lance, we're swapping out your mountain guys to run a sprint train."
"Johann, dude, that's a great idea! Just make sure I've still got Big George and I'll be fine!"

Hey, forget team management, have you thought of a career in stand-up? Cycling's loss...

What sane individual nonchalantly writes off a successful team based on still unconfirmed rumours of buying a successful rider?

Did you drink too much coffee this morning or what? Is it not possible to construct a 9 man team with 3 climbers, 4 speed demons, Wiggens, and Cavendish?

You don't need a full team to support you to go for top 10, and that's all Wiggins is realistically doing.

I'd say 4 speed demons is a bit of overkill. 2 will do, with 2 multi-purpose 'engines' like Thomas or (as rumoured) Siutsou.

sivtsov is GC guy,it would be waste of talent to let him work for cav...depends on paycheck

The other GTs will need GC guys too. He'd get his chance at those against a shallower field (like at the Giro this year). I don't think he's ever likely to make a genuine impact at the Tour.

sivtsov is an overrated talent.

He is almost 29 and without that break probably would not have been in the top 10 at the giro.

Don't get me wrong, he is good, but he'll never come close to a podium or anything.

Sure it's a really stupid move to acquire the best sprinter in the bunch, who is still very young, and by doing so not support wiggins who might be able to finish in the top 10 of the tour. After all who would be so dumb to give away a tour de france top 10 in exchange for 10 plus GT stages and a MSR a year. A smart team manager would certainly prefer a seventh place in the Tour :D

He'd only have to do some big pulls on the front of the bunch, not win the damn thing.

I have taken a few minutes to log on because of YOUR comment ... not terminator's.

As i scan the forums, its comments like yours which stand out from the others not because of any reasonable discussion comments but because of any reasonable discussion comments but because - as do so many "senior members" simply trash other posters' comments.

ISN't THERE a RULE here about being CIVIL [... moderators???] ???? Its one I learned from my mom. Ironically, YOU sir, are the one who should be embarrassed!

I am NO idiot but, .. I'd rather BE an idiot ... than an A55whole!!!

Lighten UP . Cycling is supposed to be fun

Witz

btw; i'm very impressed with SKY and their committment. I can surely see why a Brit. team would want Cav. ( and Term's point is well taken). But - despite Wiggins' perf. @ Dauphine', ... i just don't think he has IT for the Tour! Besides, the face of racing has changed SO much because of drugs... (oh hell, there i go to the clinic) ....

I still wish cycle racing were NOT a team sport but, ... every man for himself!

Someone should look up the definition of irony.
