Sky V Garmin 2011

Whats interesting, is if you lay Sky's 2010 over the top of Garmins 2011, they are very similar.

Yet Sky's 2010 was considered a dissapointment, Garmin Cervelo merged should have been expected to do better than the 2010 sky. Obviously the charts dont allow for quality of wins

Isn't 31 vs. 28 wins not that impressive, as a big money team vs. a team which has surprisingly little to spend?

well the only pro tour team that has done better is HTC

and there are several teams with much bigger budgets than Sky and as others have said, Garmin had the benefit of the best Cervelo riders

Interesting comparisons. Personally I'd look at what each rider contributed and see who exceeded expectations and who failed to meet them.

I wouldn't have expected more from any of the Sky riders but the likes of Farrar and Haussler underperformed this year. They have legitimate reasons but based solely on the win column, they've been disappointing.

Cervelo was a decent team but I wouldn't say they were the best team going around.They got Hushovd and Haussler but not many of the others were that great.

Think 2011 has just cemented Farrar as an OK sprinter who will get the wins but not the consistency or big wins. He is a good guy but cant be relied on to bring in the numbers.

They are ok all over, but not great in many areas. Haussler hasn't done a great deal to class him as anything other than a decent pro.

Doesnt look as though Vaughters messing around of half the team in the second half of the season helped a great deal.

They appear to have a nucleus of about 0 riders who are the main go to riders with all the others just lucky to get a shot now and then. For 2011 that seemed to be ex Cervelo riders.

Hushovd won't go to garmin, that's for sure. Why would he go on a team with farrar?

Hushovd and haussler won't go to garmin. Hushovd still would want to be contesting the sprints with a team behind him. Even if his "top end speed" has dropped. He is still a strong enough rider to have a few riders working for him. He won't work for farrar and neither should he. Riders have taken bigger risks in the past with gambles on teams. We don't know some of fly v's other signings yet as they may have picked up some strong riders. If they are looking for hushovd then mcewen must be staying with katusha.

Youre missing the point (as usual) i was talking more about the curve. Strong start to the season but then a dip when it came to the classics, improving in the run up to the Tour, but then tailing off in August and September. Garmins weekest part of the year is the section where you would expect them to do better,

It's Farrar's worst year since he became good in 2009. He had 11 wins in 2009 and 8 in 2010 which is probably what should be expected of him each year. He could possibly have got a couple more had the routes been kinder to pure sprinters this year.

It's not bad but his 2011 was. 5 wins, only one of which was a GT stage, for a top sprinters is disappointing. It's not like he hasn't had opportunities either.

Perhaps that was true when Brailsford said it but considering the signing Sky has done lately I would imagine that they have the 2nd biggest budgets (BMC probably on top).

Just on this topic. Considering the poll was done in January after all of the signings were made and 90% voted in favour of Garmin and the other 5 were most likely Sky fan boys it's extremely impressive.

The budget argument can only relate to other expenses that help the riders perform such as the support staff because Sky have maximised the performance of their cyclists whilst Garmin have not.

Henao can't have been particularly cheap. Also, Froome's contract will be much larger than earlier, same with Swift. Not to mention Cavendish...
