Is anyone watching the matchup between Trump and Liang at the World Snooker Championships? Pretty exciting stuff. I'm trying to watch it between wrestling alligators here on the forum.

Whichever of them wins, it'll be interesting to see him go up against the other Chinese guy.

The score is 9 Trump 8 Liang. Trump needs one frame to win, Liang two. But from the looks of it (his face), it looks like Liang has lost confidence and already given up.

Trump was down three games to seven. He just won his match ten games to eight.

Next up: Trump vs. Ding.

The match was slowly but surely turning onto Trump's side during the second session.
The frames were scrappy before the interval but, above everything, Liang Wenbo wasn't able to stay focused when it mattered... when he could've kept Trump trailing.
Trump is looking forward to his next match, so am I. The elimination of several recent World champions disappointed me a bit, but it's Crucible and the quality shouldn't be in question.

Funny you should ask. The first thing I did when i started watching this World Championship was Google the keywords "snooker doping". Snooker and doping, you perhaps won't be surprised to hear, are not unacquainted. Amazing but true. :D

So which champion was tossed for PEDs?

PS. At least we know they're not using motors.

McManus just came back from a deficit to defeat Higgins in an exciting match. He will now face Ding. Should be intense.

I think maybe we might see Fu and Ding match up. That would be interesting. Hong Kong against the Mainland. Might cause a riot in Hong Kong.

I'm not sure McManus can hold up, with the physical problems he seems to be having. Must be a lot of stress.

How do you guys rate Selby against Fu?

Selby all the way for me, toughest match player in the sport. Fu seemed to struggle when Hawkins was closing in on him albeit he won through in the end, he wont get the same easy lead in the semi and it's best of 33 as well which favours Selby imo, would be very surprised if we didn't get a Ding/Selby final.

Actually, the only Canadian world champion, Cliff Thorburn, failed a drugs test in 1988 and was subsequently banned from two ranking tournaments.

I'll be rooting for Ding for the title this year. He's the most exciting player left in the tournament now that my big favourite the Rocket is out (cracking match the one he lost vs Hawkins). Selby is mightily impressive, but his style is a little bit uninspiring to watch.

Actually, it was Cliff and Kirk Stevens doing cocaine and Big Bill was the guy on the beta blockers.

Seems like a conflation of two things.

All Canadian of course!

Man, Ding destroyed McManus today. Or at least came close to destroying him. What was it, five frames straight? McManus barely got off his chair. I'm glad he was able to come back to win a couple of frames, but damn, Ding is like a machine. What's really impressive about him is his intense focus and concentration under pressure. And that 97% potting rate. Any more than that, he wouldn't even be human.

Ding is a World champion material, no doubt.
Being so convincing today has to be related with the freshness he gained by having a session less than the others. That's the up side of a spare session. We'll see if he'll be caught by it's down side. And he came through the qualifications, remember.

At the moment, Selby in a break for the lead after the first session.

McManus's remarkable comeback to within two frames of the equally remarkable Ding was something to see. Also, his tartan playing kit. I think that kit might have been key. He should keep wearing it.

Anyway, turns out McManus maintains a very interesting blog, called The 'Inside the Tour' Angle (a play on his nick, "Angles").

Looking forward to tonight's session. If he keeps playing like this, he could win it.

Been a great quality match so far and now looks like it might be competitive with McManus getting in on the break building as well.

Don't know if I'm doing him a disservice from his peak in the mid 90s but he seems a much more aesthetically pleasing player to watch now than he was previously. Or maybe he just beat Jimmy White in a big tournament so I had a grudge against him back then.

Like a fine single malt, he's had a lot of time to age. :)

Ding has the highest number of centuries this tournament with ten. Interestingly, the second highest was made by McManus (tied with Higgins) at six.

Selby and Fu started their session just now. Should be interesting.
