I saw a headline in a Canadian paper (Globe and Mail - I think) but I can't find a link online. Anyway the headline was something like "It's over for Armstrong" a bit misleading because the article simply says what we all know which is he is out of contention for the GC. I suspect it's headlines like this or similar that are creating an impression he has quit.

Personally I don't think he'll quit - I think he will put a brave face on riding out the race. He may even try to cause a bit of mischief for Alberto but hopefully he'll be graceful in defeat. The spin will switch to it's all about Levi ;) and that was always plan B or soemthing like that :)

we need a poll :D

It's actually the voices that make it funny! The monotone is kind of symbolic, I think that would be about the intellectual high of a conversation between the two about the race.

Just so you know there a still a few N Americans that think Benny Hill is representative of British comedy. When I show people Little Britain, Big Train, Fast Show, Catherine Tate etc I am afraid it goes over the heads of many folk in this part of the World. I guess the moral is that humour doesn't travel that well...

Try this one in places too far from the UK...

Back to the cycling...

Well we don't know for sure what would have happened. I think you have to go back to the cobble stage and the huge effort he made to get back on. To go into the mountains with any deficit must have been hugely difficulty psychologically. That's probably why he was so nervous - one attack from AC would end it. That's why he quit once he had lost a minute.
But I'm sure you've followed the sport long enough to have a sophisticated understanding of the doping issue. The fact is at the time he was getting dropped pre-cancer all the top other guys were on the programme and he was not. Lemond suffered terribly as well during the same period -if he was just starting his career you'd be saying he was crap.

No i think he fully deserves his spot as one of the greats. Though I'll admit that it's one of those issues where reasonable people can disagree.

Typical BPC lies.

Armstrong started seeing Dr. Ferrari long before cancer. In 1995 Armstrong encouraged his teammates to dope and made an agreement with those teammates that no one who was not using EPO would get a spot on Motorola's Tour squad. When he was an amateur he raced for the national team, where his good friend and coach, Chris Carmichael, injected juniors with dope while lying about what was in the injections. There is no parallel between Armstrong and Lemond.

You have to wonder what motivates people like BPC. The guy's a professional liar. Similar to Polish, who lies just as much but does it under the guise of humor.

I'm not going to lie, I'd probably take less pleasure in Armstrong's fall were it not for these minions who suck at Armstrong endless teat of sour milk.

It's interesting that you guys always have to lie about lying.

You know very well that the poster I was responding to said that Armstrong was hours down "pre-cancer", so I was continuing the short hand. Whether you want to say it's "pre cancer" or "1995" makes absolutely no different to the point of course.

When Armstrong started seeing Dr Ferrari in the mid 90s he started the process of catching up the GC guys who were all on the programme.

Now, what is wrong about that? Or are you trying to say Dr Ferrari made no different until after cancer? What's your point?

In the early 1990s former Tour winner Greg Lemond suffered terribly because of the EPO.

Again, what is wrong about that?

Why can't you just be honest about it though? That's what I don't get.

The guy is out of GC - the propaganda should end now.

Lance has been slowed down due to the many many crashes ouch.
And out of GC contention, sure.

But that is not the same as being slowed down because of bad form.
Lance's strength has not been sapped yet I would think.....

It would be awesome if Lance can take a stage win before the tour is done!
Maybe tomorrow?

A stage win as a neo-pro.
And a stage win as a geri-pro 17 years later.

Bookends to a Stellar Career.

Is he Counter attack? I just go a pm from somebody telling me Armstrong was clean before cancer.

PS Honestly, I didn't even scroll up to see his posts, then I saw you ripping him. You can't reply to his pm's.

I just thought the computerized delivery and the rehash of all the clinic topics and the compendium of the obvious to be very funny.

Then I asked coggan if he realizes that Armstrong is on gear and he tells me he has no idea.

you have to laugh at the extremes the fanboys take this nonsense.

Let's not feed BPC - it just encourages more drivel from the drivelmeister. Just let us know and we will bump him off the boards.

Says the guy who thinks this is the right thread to talk about Benny Hill.

BroDeal did a good job of fouling the atmophere on this thread. There was nothing particularly controversial going on.

If you disagree with something I've said then just say it, you don't need to pretend I'm lying or something.

What's wrong? I thought I was the guy that should be sad about something. Armstrong is out - there is no need to get all angry.

At least I now know it's a personal issue for cranky.

What nonsense? Cite something?

I didn't even want to get onto the cliched stuff about Armstrong being crap without dope - you're the one who brought it up.

Coggan used to hang out on the Usenet cycling groups. What I remember about that was that no matter how ridiculous a rider's performance, there was always a natural explanation that did not involve dope. Just a complete refusal to see the forest for the trees. In light of the huge number of top cyclists who have been shown to be dopers, those rec.bicycles.racing discussions seem almost surreal in hindisight.

What pi$$es you off about me is I never say anything like that of course. The point that so upset you a minute ago was about the famous two tier peloton and how Armmstrong caught up when he started using dope.

No natural explanation there.

That's why you throw your toys out and have to start lying.

You can't win an honest exchange.

Ah, I suppose you're just doing your job, but it does get annoying when a slightly dim moderator piles in though.

BroDeal is banned from more sites on the web than I am.

That tells you all you need to know.

It's not hard to see why - he plays to smear, not to debate in an honest fashion.

And 180Crank piles in to ban me.
