epic ride by papy bjornadalen. one of the greatest athletes ever

10-15 years ago i was a big fan of biathlon, poiree-ole einar battles, and huge fan of german women team, wilhelm-henkel

in time, i lost pretty much all interest and nowadays i consider biathlon, the little, *** brother of cross country skiing, which by the way is the real deal

all those said though, ole einar bjorndalen is a special breed, definitely a legend

Even though I've never been a Biathlon fan, as a sports lover, I recognize greatness when I see it. Ole Einar has it in spades.

Just watching Jenny Jones getting her bronze in snowboarding. The commentators on the BBC are going mad with delight.

First ever medal on snow for Britain.

What is fuc**** outrageous, the referees in women slopestyle. Pancochova should definitely be in front of them. The very, very long time it take them to decide on Jones marks says a lot. Sad it's happening at Olympic games.

weren't the greeks winning the olympics like 2000 years ago?

ooopos i think you meant first in history lol

to my shame i don't follow speedskating at all, i know only two names- pechstein claudia i think?? and sven kramer if i remember it correctly. that's all i know about speed skating lol

Kramer rode the Dutch National Championships tt and did pretty well a few years back. Also Sablikova won both the road race and time trial at the CR National Championships.

Oh yes, I remember him. He looked rather incompetent, but I liked him, and was rooting for him (not to break his neck), nonetheless.

Apparently the Jamaicans have a bobsledding team again this year, that could be fun to watch.

On a different and belated note - while I thought some parts of the opening ceremony were too drawn out I overall liked it. I was especially blown away by the soprano who sang the Olympic anthem (not sure whether she was lipsyncing or not), I wish the lady who sang the American anthem at the Suer Bowl recently would have sounded that good.

Agreed. Not as big a scandal as yesterday in mens slopestyle. Kotsenburg should have been 3rd or 4th. Norwegian Staale Sandbech was literally robbed for gold...

felix loch will win all the olympics until 2040 or something jezuz
demchenko and legend zoggeler on the podium in their 40's. respect
scary as hell sport though, i would be dead after the first 20 seconds

Ditto.

The luge is bad enough, but what kind of a person does one have to be in order to do the skeleton? (A special kind of speed freak, or a special kind of a stupid person?)

My policy would be - protect your head/brain, in any sport, first. But noooooo, these skeleton freaks just really want to go head/brain first.

Ah well, we all need to get our adrenaline kicks somehow, I suppose...

Actually this 500 m speed skating is cool. Like this the most so far. It´s powerful, no-nonsense-straight and no judge influences the outcome...

Downhill skiing was also pretty cool.

This "circus" snowboarding & women hockey is dull.

Now waiting for the real hockey. Every 4 years I watch it as an Ex-NHL (Detroit Red Wings) fan. To my surprise I don´t know much of the players anymore (other than the likes of Ovechkin, Malkin and Crosby).
Hope the bigger fields (in comparison to NHL) help the talented skilled players (like the above mentioned) more than the rough ones....

Utterly, totally un-****ing believable!!! :D

The Dutch twins both on the podium, the first ever Dutch 500m gold, the first ever clean sweep, the closest margin ever between 1-2. This 500m will go down in skating history and folklore.

So every country found their niche.
You netherlands own speed skating,
the brits track cycling,
the jamaicans sprints in track & field,
the far north countries skiing,
Germany luge...
Now we know how Jamaica does it, the brits & skiers are discussed endlessly in the clinic, and I believe Germany doesn´t have the best athlets in luge (but certainly the best material)... how do the netherlands do it? ;)

Sorry, didn´t wanna spoil your party... don´t mind :)
