Its not rocket science....who is going to benefit from this huge influx of revenue to Cycling ? all the teams...sponsors climb onboard....money money money.....do you think the Teams' Management wouldn't all be interested in a particular Team winning to boost the money pot ?

Did you hear any cries of dismay from Movistar or Liquigas last year when Sky took over ? no ! because they are benifitting from the increase in ££££££££'s.

Who benefitted from Lance winning the Tour all those years ? EVERY TEAM IN THE PELOTON that's who !

It's not money money money to precis your words and that of the famous song by ABBA. It is winning winning winning, as this is the lucrative part that gives the sponsors funding the teams a return on their investments, and generates, (in turn) money. And in and of it's self there is nothing wrong with this as with out it there would be no TdF if it didn't generate money - it would be like women's stage racing a dying sport.

Problem is winning has historically taken doping doping doping, although you are adamant it is not to do with doping, which leads me to believe - that you believe 1. In the new clean era, or 2. Sky's marginal gains, or 3. Both.

If money money money is being generated through "race fixing" alone, you need to provide evidence and justify this position, I am not convinced.

The basic tenant of your conspiracy theory may well have some validity regarding UK, Australia and South Africa being in the forefront of the racing and being given a UCI push. But could be very naïve to assert it has nothing to do with doping?

its easy to 'doctor' times with seconds difference rather than minutes.

It should be easy enough to watch the stage again and time it for yourself if you think that was going on. Although I suppose the broadcasters may be in on it all as well.

God...How many more times must I say it is NOT about Greenedge doping.

And thanks Galic Ho for the support !!

Oh you'll love this then.

40 kilometres to go tonight. Lotto have just called the chase off and given up. Cannondale have put the nail into the other teams so the conversation on SBS has to shift to something else.

Where does Paul Sherwen go? Well he starts talking about OGE and Daryl Impey. Then he pulls out a ripper from I don't know where, but starts rabbiting on about money in South Africa and how we 'might see a South African team in the pro peloton."

And people don't think it's about money in the Anglo Saxon world. I know Sherwen is a nutter, but sometimes he talks sense. He certainly sounded like he wanted to see another South African team in the Pro Tour once again and I have no doubt the UCI would too. There is a reason Katusha were hit hard earlier this year. Sure Russia has money to burn. But they don't have the 'national image' of cleanliness now do they? Nor do the traditional continental European cycling powerhouses. Rabo is a strong message...some nations are giving up. So are their sponsors.

It has always been about the money and a huge part of the recent push has been Anglo Saxon in origin. Yes I know South Africa has a large Dutch heritage as well. That doesn't hurt either given Dutch cycling pedigree. Take a good hard look at Belkin post 2009. They look clean. Look at Gesink. Crap. Clean. Look at LuLu for the team. Shadow of what he was. Cleaner if not clean. Rabo/Blanco/Belkin are a very good case study into doping, business, money and the future. One can learn a lot simply by examining their changes in recent years. Very talented riders...who get spanked. That isn't a sign of cleanliness IMO on behalf of the other teams.

Hold up - the highlighted while true, has nothing at all to do with the ridiculous theory put forward by the OP.

And just to be clear - the Brits have put forth an Anglo Saxon candidate, to replace an Anglo Saxon President.

I didn't touch the OGE claim. Well I did slightly, but my point to you was Cycle Chic had some valid points. I did say OGE taking the lead was chance, the result of crashes.

I also wanted to reiterate that certain State governments (ahem Labor cough cough) have been engaging in dodgy business Down Under and that SBS are well known for towing the omerta line fed to the media. I doubt we will ever find out how much LA was paid, because it was brought up in Parliament and quashed a year ago.

As per the Anglo Saxon vs Anglo Saxon. True that. Ireland to the UK. But what have the Irish won on the road? Nothing of note in some time. Kelly and Roche were their big wigs. UK on the other hand are peaking at their zenith right now. And they definitely have the $$$ behind them. That is something to be concerned about as a viewer and fan. Let's not forget Pat was mostly the puppet of Hein. Sure Irish cycling and McQuaid supporters have profited from his tenure, but were private sponsors pouring money in in a comparative rate per capita to what the UK are now doing? The UK lottery program for track cycling alone blows them out of the water.

In terms of money good Doctor, it isn't the same thing. As for setting OGE up...well. I didn't expect them to win. Was surprised. Especially without Durbridge there. A lot of them pulling on yellow came down to first stage nerves. No stuff up with the OGE bus on stage 1, they'd never have pulled yellow on IMO. I won't even touch whether that was setup...way too dicey IMO. :D

Yeah, I got nothing for this...

I'm on Dawg watch.

Sky want me to report if he goes too far so he can look slightly real.

I'm Sky's full *** consultant.

Want to explain why a grown man of nearly 30 needed braces all of a sudden. :p

Sadly drugs make half rate cyclist like Froome into GT contenders.

We all need to band together and sue Sky. Class action.

None the less lets see how my week goes in the Sky bus.

FWIW, he claims to know Sky riders.

Watch out, he might bite back.

Enjoy the Sky bus. It's a shame you can't get on the OGE one, they need a new driver I heard. Maybe they can borrow Froome Dawg's no.1 fan. The Sky Bus driver who looks like his dad.

No, not really. Everything is chip-timed. It's how you get some of the splits between groups on the course. It's a closed system and greatly simplifies time keeping.

I would argue the UCI has done what they can to help African riders do well as they did with Armstrong, then Wiggo, (Olympics ratings, ASO buying Tour of Britain) now Froome and Porte. Sky ruined their own chances at the Olympics road race using all their energy dragging the peloton around the whole race trying to launch Cavendish.

you dont think having a team of world class pursuiters is going to give you a big advantage in such a short TTT?

have you watched a bike race before?

How do you watch a bike race? Is that what happens when they pull you?

A team of world-class pursuiters could be an advantage in a world-class pursuit, if they were all in their prime, if they were on a track, and if they were taking efficient rotations.

A team of world-class pursuiters, however, should be represented by members who have each participated in more than one world-class event, n'est-ce pas?

Edit to add:

In the sport of cycling, don't you start to wonder when either the announcers or the other competitors start to describe a performance as amazing (Lance...), unbelievable (Floyd...), or in a recent case as the "ride of the millenium"?*

At least until cycling achieves Phat's claims of a 1% doped peloton, that is.

Dave.

*"Mark Cavendish tweeted it as "Ride of the day.. No, make that ride of the millennium..."

If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball...

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world.......ha haaha
Must be funny
In a rich mans world

I think your barking up the wrong conspiracy tree! Stick to doping as being the main corrupting force.

Money makes the world go around
The world go around
The world go around
Money makes the world go around
It makes the world go 'round.

A mark, a yen, a buck, or a pound
A buck or a pound
A buck or a pound
Is all that makes the world go around,
That clinking clanking sound
Can make the world go 'round.

Money make's men's wheels go round
Their wheels go round
Their wheels go round
It makes those men on bikes go round
And gives them all the world...

Ok last para is my add on.

The reason it was ignored was because it is not that difficult to say that someone is going to have a stellar year after they win 2 stages in a row.

Here is my prediction for the Tour, I think Orica Green Edge are going to have a stellar year, watch them in the TTT at this years Tour de France.
