Well first off most people don't know how to post a question or statement without adding an offensive remark to something that is totally out of the main statement in question. Second, people read with an agenda, meaning if what ever is being written about is not what they use or like or sell, they will post any minor issue with something that again has nothing to do with the main statement but might be connected or even have a similar name. Third they are the crumuggens of life and there is no way they will allow anyone to be happy with anything no matter how minimal that happiness might be. Then, there are those that even if in agreement to the main statement must toss in a counter statement that is so obtuse it sounds like they want to start WWIII because... I actually have no idea why they do this. Lastly, there are those who agree with you will back up your statements even though they have never ever met you and possibly have disagreed with you in detail in another thread on a totally different matter.

Are you still bummed that you couldn't convince anybody here that Mavic Mektronic was the best invention since sliced bread?

Or there is shop guy who is so bitter he has no future he has to beat his chest and assume he knows more about engineering, marketing and the market place that the manufacturer.

Shop owner guy who believes he can just set up a cash register and sell products he likes by creating a laundry list of how bad the parts are he doesn't like. A fine business model at that.

Brilliant. We poke fun at your mediocre toys and you go on a personal attack. Why are you so sensitive?

That's quite a story, you have any proof of these claims?

Ain't that the truth. What is it today? The moon not in the right phase? The weather making y'all's joints ache? I see more curmudgeons (note the spelling please) per square pica here than I've seen since . . . .probably can't say that.

And the other forums have been going on a bit too. If I were truly consistent, I'd delete most of the posts in this thread - and give out a bunch of infractions. But all of y'all are old hands here, and nobody has complained yet.

But knock it off - quit poking at each other, or I'll complain and start getting serious. My god, I sound like a school teacher - but all of you know better.

So let me get this right. Between Bustedknuckle and myslef we have over 50 years of combined experience in everything bicycle, we've seen more than most. So when we have something bad to say about certain brands and the products they produce some people get so unhinged like these two nuggets you'd think someone killed their cat, and this gives them the right to personally attack and bad mouth us?

I'm making fun of crappy toys, what are they doing in response? I may need to re-read the policies here, looks like they've changed a bit.

I am having an agreement with Boeing and that's bad? Or just so odd on this forum that you are having trouble interpreting that as a good thing? Let me know.

I do see your poking forum-ite though, as I last heard I was on his Block list yet he replies to every one of my posts, think its a sign of a problem but I'll leave that up to the clinical psychologists on the forum. But don't worry he won't see my post as like he told me I'm on his block list.

Ok - I notice everyone has cooled off. Thank you. It is not my job, as mod, to take sides - even if I agree. It IS my job to make sure the conversation stays civil, and the beer keeps flowing. Everybody posting in this thread was over the bounds for a while - so there is no "right" here. Thank you ALL for listening and calming down.

OK back to the post subject..
I have now done over 6000km on my 9 speed XTR with the ti cluster. And with never replacing the chain only cleaning eveything and lubing. I know this is not SRAM or road but I think the point should be made that I will never do this again to any of my bikes. Now I must replace the whole drive train. And being XTR it is not cheap!! Acutally I feel cheap for not replacing at least the chain maybe at around the 1500km mark. but I had no money to do this at the time.
Preformance wise, I think because it was XTR I did not notice the slow progression of shift preformance loss. I thought if it is not broken don't fix it. Now after spending a lot of cash. The bike got a big service with new chain, sprockets, cluster, tyres, grips, rebuilt forks, brake pads, BB, seat.....
Now I am like WOW this is great !! What a looser I was!

So the lesson here kids is don't be a tight **** and mantain your bike. There is nothing to be proud of riding your bike into the ground. Even if it was SRAM.

When slamming products becomes the basis of your own merits over 50 years of combined experience, don't stop and wonder why business hasn't expanded in all that time.

just sayn. not an apologist here.

in other words a laundry list of what you think sucks and a cash register in front isnt a good business model as you probably know by now

it aint personal, it's business. you'd be wise to remember that and not take or make it personal

then there is always the imaginary "industry trolls defense" for that we might need to take it to a question of psych 101 not business 101

XTR is made of cheese, only worth the money over XT if you are racing.

The slamming won't stop until SRAM makes better componentry, so you either have to change the channel, or grow a thicker skin. I know Bustedknuckle has added lines to his shop, I've brought on three new vendors this season, naw, we're not growing.. Pffft! Where in the hell do you come up with this fiction, your painkiller-alcohol induced coma dreams?

just sayn. not an apologist here.

Yes, you are in fact. You have family that works at SRAM, you get your junk for free or almost free. Based on these FACTS it's quite obvious why in all these years you still cant get over why we don't like that crap.

in other words a laundry list of what you think sucks and a cash register in front isnt a good business model as you probably know by now

And pushing junk product on the consumer is a good idea? You're not in this biz, so on what authority do you speak?

it aint personal, it's business. you'd be wise to remember that and not take or make it personal, then there is always the imaginary "industry trolls defense" for that we might need to take it to a question of psych 101 not business 101

There's a back story to you and I. Do need I remind everyone what a total nut job you are, and why? I have tons of utterly mindless PM's and email from you, people would think you were a 6 year old. Shall I share?

Don't beat yourself up about it. Depending on what sort of conditions you ride in, 6000 km is actually pretty good. A friend of mine once installed a complete xtr groupset the week before the Mont 24 hour, and had to throw the whole drivetrain out after the race.
I'm generally not hard on gear, and am fastidious about keeping my bikes clean and maintained, and have still managed to ruin an XT drivetrain in a weekend of muddy riding on the Tasmanian west coast. 6 month old chainrings, 2- month old cluster and chain which was well within tolerance on my chain checker before I left home. Cleaning the bike up 50 muddy km later and the chain was worn out. Changed it to a new one (kmc x9) and after 2 more rides it was shot. The next new chain I tried skipped on the cluster and sucked on the rings.
In total that makes two clusters, three chains and a set of chain rings in probably less than 2000 km.

Fwiw, I replaced the XT rings with middleburn hard ano rings because the XT have a rep for being cheese. Big mistake. Chain suck all the time from day one on down shift from the big ring, lifting pins pulled out, never shifted as well as XT they replaced.

Actually, 6000km is pretty damn good for off-road conditions. Especially as the OP did it on a single chain. Presumably would have lasted even longer with a couple of new chains in the mix.

Whether XTR is worth the money depends on largely on how much (money) you have. It is nice stuff. Bike jewellery.

Yes, the 2by stuff is beautiful and the engineering and design are impressive. shimano doesn't rely on carbon and graphics and gadgetry, unlike the other maker, but just solid design and function..

We can see that there is personal history here, and perhaps the conversation might be more interesting if there WERE more of that history published.

My thinking, at this moment, is to give you guys another warning, as you are all old hands on this forum.

I am tempted to just delete the personal attacks preceding, and I am hoping that I am not making a mistake in allowing them to stand.

ATTACK THE MESSAGE, NOT THE MESSENGER.

This has to be the last warning. Next time I will have to htfu and deliver consequences that I do not want to administer.
