Maybe Trek don't care as much with all the wins they already have, but Visma and Alpecin must be peeved to have a good chance at another stage win simply go up the road (when the lead group separated) due to inattention . . . or due to the idea that they're fine as long as they get a rider into the lead group. I guess what they couldn't have anticipated is a scenario where virtually every powerful team gets one guy into that break, leaving no teams with the motivation or strength to chase.

This is about the most underwhelming way this finale could be playing out. Although tbf Denz is the only rider who deserves it, somehow in a group of 34 riders nobody else had both the legs and the brains.
The lack of fight is surely disappointing, but I fully appreciate Denz tactics here and found it nice to watch. First catching the front group on his own. Then probably noticing that riders like Hoole are not taking a turn, knowing that this was the right place and right time to attack as he had weaker riders right behind him (Conci and Maestri).
