Too bad that in determining the Wild Card selections, race organizers don't take into consideration how much a team added to the race dynamic (even if it's just getting into doomed breaks) in previous editions.

So, I guess a summary would be something like this:
A large group, containing several of the biggest sprinters got a huge gap on the peloton. They could basically ride the finale like it was an ordinary sprint stage.
Then group containing one of each of those sprinters' teammates got a large gap.
Finally a single rider who was simply the strongest got a decent-sized gap.

TL;DR:
It went to the break.
Then it went to the break.
Then it went to the guy going solo.

Interview. I love that he reiterated how much work goes into this, not just by the leaders but the whole teams, it's months away from home and losing your main guy really is a blow. Such a great rider.
