I feel like after all of the commentators and people said "Hey, Ryder is the best TTist of the GC contenders," by some magic it became true.

Amazing performance from Purito (or as harmonn calls him. "Perito"). Many doubted he would ever podium a gt.

For a second there it looked like Rodriguez and De Gendt were gonna give Ryder one on the cheek.

The world would certainly be a better place if you stop whining. I don't know what kind of God you have, but last year was a great year, and this year looks even better. :)

If you like watching TT guys drop anchor and favourites bunches sitting together doing sweet FA until the last few stages, then I guess yes, 2011 was great and 2012 was even better.

So far near enough the only good thing about cycling in 2012 has been that Bob Stapleton isn't in it.

When are they going to actually win a few road races, not clock races?
We all know TTs are totally boring.:p

Well because timetrials is the race of truth, where BMC show their true colors:D
Actually they won the 6th monument, the Giro della toscana:D

Yeah, he only needed a very mountainous course with barely any ITT kms. He's a true GT rider alright.

Hat during the national anthem? WTF??

To be fair, he was quite emotional. It is not so serious not to put your hat off while you are clearly shocked and even crying.

No, it's good enough. De Gendt might have been even better because he wasn't in contention until yesterday, but Hesjedal will do. He actually sort of attacked when most people agreed he didn't need to take more time, and he took responsibility for the chase yesterday. That's A LOT more than Purito (not to mention Scarponi) did.

err the times he attacked was in similar fashion then jrod. I think being the underdog (jrod high expectations) we gave him less slack. Sure he took responsibility, but he had to. Fact is no one really attacked from far out on this race (except TdG obviously).

True compared to some sports. Boring aside from the great rides in between the those who don't have to perform. Of course anyone who can't see the compoents of a great ITT ride have only the eyes of the blind or never bothered with becoming an all-around cyclist who can win a GTor a local stage-race.

He's got a good chance to equal that 2nd in the Vuelta, given the "nothing but short steep uphill finishes on flat stages" format they appear to be going for.

Of course, his not being an a priori top contender helps. Part of this is about humiliating the haughty who thought they could win the Giro by default. And while Hesjedal "had to" take responsibility, the same could be said about Purito and Scarponi, although it should have translated into different tactics.

fun fact:

Since basso won giro in 10' we have had a debut GT champion at every GT (if you disregard the contador factors of course).

Hesjedal was the complete underdog though, you should expect less from him than the so-called stars, who made a mockery of this race. Hesjedal could rely on his somewhat better time-trial, and actually did take responsibility in the end. He deserves it a lot more than Rodriguez, Basso and Scarponi.

It's his first time - ven if he looks calm i am sure he is completely overwhelmed by this - so he forgot. I think we can excuse him on this one occasion. :)

Nevermind think we should end it here before the mods come after us.

No no I was just wondering why you mentioned it because I couldn't see with what or whom it had something to do. But anyway, you're right we should stop it.

sorry yes, I was more referring to the serious contenders. I never considered either to be such to be honest. Outside shots, who generally require the more courageous attacks to do a good GC.

Anyway Nieve, I like how this guy goes about his business.
