For the revenge: We also should mention the Liquigas-spoil-all-stages-train led to a non podium finish too. I am really satisfied. :)

The Canadian National anthem has never sounded better, congrats to Ryder, this is best possible outcome I could have ever imagined from this Giro being a Canadian, I am pumped!

It's his first time - ven if he looks calm i am sure he is completely overwhelmed by this - so he forgot. I think we can excuse him on this one occasion. :)

Ryder is Canadian, not American.

holy s*** what are those podium girls not wearing:eek:

JRod's TT was great. Katusha have done a lot with him there.

He's just got to attack from further out on the mountain stages, if he can, and he's gonna win a GT. He didn't take responsibility: Ryder did. That's the difference.

Great to see him no longer playing second fiddle to Valverde. His previous team gave him no chances.

He lives in Mauii

He trains in Maui during the winter, yes.
He does not live there, was not born there, definitely did not grow up there.
Besides that, ever been to Maui?
Ryder would be considered "hyper" amongst Mauians! :p

At least he tried something, and wasn´t considered a favourite. Keep that in mind. The big guys were on strike, especially the stage where JRod could have taken some seconds. It´s sooo sweet. :D
Yeah..He made a couple of attacks. Exactly what Rodriguez did too. And who didn't think Rodriguez wouldn't crack in the long ascents?

You can say that Rodriguez deserved to lose, because he should have tried more than late attacks. But you can't say that Ryder is a more deserving winner because of this.

I think Basso is kinda gone already. He always seems to fade in the 3rd week in every GT after his magnificent 2010 Giro win.

fun fact:

Since basso won giro in 10' we have had a debut GT champion at every GT (if you disregard the contador factors of course).

Says a lot about all the second tier ****ers who stake everything on the Tour.

Canadians over the moon  All that nationalism.

This event is akin to if the Italian hockey team beating the Canadian hockey team in over-time.

Italians don't play hockey.
Canadians don't race bikes.

If either wins, it's against a ton of odds.

Van halen rocking the giro.

Shame to see the ttt was decisive though. Always painful to see headstarts be important.

Huh? Katusha was 5 seconds behind in the TTT, hardly decisive. You ride the race as it's set out. Team Time Trials help some riders. Bonus Seconds help others. Seems peevish (or Schleckish?) to complain that there are right ways and wrong ways to win a Grand Tour.

If you like watching TT guys drop anchor and favourites bunches sitting together doing sweet FA until the last few stages, then I guess yes, 2011 was great and 2012 was even better.
What are you going to do about it? You seem to have been watching anyway since you're still here posting comments.

This isn't a US or CAN thing - I think most nations consider a mark of respect to remove your hat for their country anthem. But hey no big deal.
